There are two kinds of professionals in the world — the ones who just work hard, and the others who work hard and work smart. The greatest level of success comes to the people who find a balance between hard work and smart work. This is certainly true in the world of Internet marketing.

As a blogger, you must be working day and night to produce great content, drive traffic and make money from ads.  But it is easy to overlook some of the simplest methods of increasing traffic and thus AdSense earnings by a significant amount.

So – in today’s post I am sharing one of the simplest ways to improve traffic and increase your income!

Benefits of using long tail and high CPC AdSense Keywords:

Surely you are aware of the fact that the most targeted traffic your blog has, the more money you will make. Similarly, the more high-CPC keywords you are using, the more your AdSense earnings will increase over time.

I have written about long tail keywords in the past and explained how these keywords help you to rank higher with search engines.  I have also explained how long tail keywords are easy to rank for and help you to get highly targeted organic traffic.

Now suppose we could find a way to identify the perfect combination of long tail keywords that are also CPC AdSense keywords?  Sounds like a money-making combination, does it not?  Read on!

Next, have a look at another great tool called Semrush, which I am about to introduce to you. Semrush will assist you in identifying long tail, high CPC keywords literally within seconds!

Using Semrush to find profitable AdSense Keywords:

Semrush is one amazing tool and is a unique tool in terms of the amazing features it offers. I won’t go into a detailed explanation of this tool here because you can refer to my review article to learn all you need to know about using Semrush. What I want do today is show you how you can use this tool to find profitable AdSense keywords.

To get all you can from this excellent tool, I suggest you first compile the following tools:

  • Google Docs spreadsheet or any other tool you’re using to manage keywords.
  • Semrush account. (Get complete 14-day free trial using this link)
  • List of high and medium authority blogs in your niche.

Login to your Semrush account, and type the name of the domain that you want to use for finding long tail high CPC keywords. For example, in this case I’m using Warrior forum

  • Save

On the next page, click on organic keywords > Full list, and you will be shown a list of keywords that are driving traffic to the Warrior Forum.

  • Save

Now, you simply need to sort the list by clicking on the CPC tab, and it will sort the list in order of high CPC keywords first.

Interesting to note is the fact that the majority of high CPC AdSense keywords are usually long tail keywords. Indeed, some of them are as high as $300+ per click!

  • Save

Now begin copying the keywords which you think are most suitable for your blog. (I usually note most of the keywords on my content-planning Google document, and I use these notes later for structuring content on ShoutMeLoud or any other blog.)

Continue to repeat the process for the other domains on the list, and by the time you have completed this exercise, you will have an extensive list of high-CPC AdSense keywords.

Since you are already targeting niche-based long tail keywords, you are most likely to rank higher and drive traffic on those keywords. This is one of the simplest and fastest ways to skyrocket your AdSense earnings.

Keep in mind that you need to make sure your keywords are driving traffic from countries like the United States. Otherwise, you are not maximizing your potential from this tip.

Semrush is one of the best search engine marketing tools available, and I highly recommend that you take it for a test-drive at the very least. You can use the link below to get completely free access to Semrush for 14 days, which usually costs $150. (You do need a credit card to take advantage of this offer, but you can cancel your subscription anytime within the 14-day trial period.)

Take the 14- day free trial of Semrush!

I have also created this video tutorial to explain how you can use Semrush to find highly profitable AdSense Keywords:

How and where to use these keywords? for example “car on rent” has cpc 15$ then where should I use this keyword? I am using wordpress.

    1. Digember

Use long tail keywords on headlines because effective headlines draw higher click-through rates. Long tail keywords and LSI (Latent semantic indexing) should be used in the content ( 2 % keyword frequency). Long tail example for ‘car on rent/ – car on rent in “location”, cheap car rental, rent a car with driver or without driver, etc. Use google keyword research tool help for finding best long tail keyword.

    Hi Harsh,

Let me begin by saying that I’m in love with your site loading speed. Thanks to AMP.

This information you just shared is so true because I know of a friend who makes over $5000 every month because of the level of keywords he was targeting. Right now, I’m thinking of opening a new blog on that niche. But my question is, how long should I post before adding my Adsense code on the new site?

    Thank you.

    1. Ravi Bandakkanavar

I don’t think your ad addition has anything to do with when you have opened your blog. You can start showing your ads after posting 4-5 articles. Based on your blog’s keywords Google starts rolling ads. You can also use DFP for publishers to relate your ads to specific keywords, inventory, region.

  5. Babar ali

Thanks for sharing such a helpful information with us. But I think it’s impossible to get 50$ per click. I have tried this method And I got 0.89$ per click which is not bad at all. Maybe I have made a mistake while doing this job.
there is just one key thing I want to ask you is did you ever try this method? Did you really got 50$ per click from Adsense? If yes then you are really expert of Adsense.

    1. Satinder Singh

@babar, yes it’s true you can earn $50/click via adsense. I depends on your website niche. I have many website on which I experiment many things related to adsense and yes I also got a max $15/click till now.

    2. Pankaj Sharma

what have you done for that much CPC? $0.89 is also very nice CPC. I would love to get that kind of CPC.

    3. Arnab

Hi Babar, I’ve seen CPC of around $5 personally, specially if your article is about some Google’s own products and services. Of course traffic origin matters a lot.

  6. James

Do you use a mixture of both long tail and High CPC keywords as a strategy? Thanks, Harsh your case studies are always top notch! 🙂

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @James
      Long tail keywords: Yes
High CPC: Not required for me since AdSense is not my major monetization strategy.

  7. Manokaran

Hi, I can’t able to open Semrush free trial for 14 days. In payment page, I had filled all the details and when I click on “Place the order button”. it is loading and stays on that page itself.
so I can’t able to proceed with sem rush.
Can you please help me by giving a solution.

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @Monakaran
Try using an alternate browser & it might help.
If not, clear your browser cookies + cache & open a new tab in incognito mode. It might work this way.
Let me know how it goes for you.

  8. indranil

Hello Harsh just stuffing long tail keywords what will be impact with the search engine…?

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @Indrani
Stuffing keywords without adding any value can be easily detected by search engine & your site can get penalized. Don’t stuff unless it’s natural.

  9. Ejiga Godwin

Good day hatsh I trust your dsy is goiing well.
Please I wish to ask a question if I make a research and target high paying AdSense keyword.. Write an Article.
I think I must use link ads on the blog for those keyword to work? Is it compulsory I must use link ads or only display ads is OK for it??

    1. Ejiga Godwin

Thanks for the reply…will give you a feedback.

  10. Nihal

Nice guide but the one of the biggest drawback of adsense it give more for USA user than an Indian user and many times google adword give false reports about keyword.

  11. James

    Thanks Harsh,

Do you pay attention to the competition for particular long tail keywords, if so what metrics are you looking for, for example if I had a site with little authority what would be the metrics to watch out for.

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @James
I don’t really pay attention to the competitor in this case. I usually ensure my own domain gets high authority & quality of content have to be top notch. The target here is to drive traffic from search engines.

  12. Abhishek Tripathi

Got an ampleful amount of useful information today. Thanx Harsh sir. Now, I am gonna start using Semrush. One thing I want to ask that will it work properly for an entertainment blog. Actually, when using Google Keyword planner, I feel comfortable for finding blogging related keywords but when I search for entertainment related Keywords, it doesn’t make me feel the same.

Hope the new tool Semrush will help me drive more traffic and yes higher CPC too. Once again Thank you 🙂

    Regards
