Do you want to drive more traffic to your website?

These 23 tips will help you to generate more traffic and leads in 2019 & in the coming years!

One thing you want for your website is a decent amount of traffic. That means you’d want new people every day to find the way to your site. After all, if no one finds your website or your online shop, how are you going to make money?

If you open a business (even if it was just a lemonade stand) you can open the doors at 8 am and close them again at 6 pm, and you are in people’s faces. Even if you don’t go out and advertise, the chances are that people will come by.

Something in your shop window might have attracted them. Maybe they are interested in one of your products, or they were just taking a walk and just wanted to check out the new corner shop.

If you start a website, a blog or an online shop it becomes a lot harder to get people to enter it. In this article, I will outline twenty-one great ways to increase your traffic that I personally use to push my own website.

Pardon me for skipping the intro, as this is a detailed guide on increasing website traffic and let’s straight away dive into it.

How to Increase traffic to your website

1. Launch a blog for your Website:

Blogging is one of the most efficient ways to get more traffic. It also has been identified as one of the best ways to attract new customers. 57% of companies with a blog have acquired a customer from their blog. This means that if you blog more, you will get more customers.

It also will help you to position yourself as an authority in your industry.  A good rule of thumb is to publish a  new piece at least 1-4 times a month.

2. Answer Questions on Quora

3. Share Articles to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn

Sharing on social media can send people to your website, especially if you use hashtags (#). You could also engage with influential people in your industry on social media. This way they will notice you and may share your content if it is good enough.

Here are tools to help you quickly share articles on Social media:

4. Post Videos on YouTube

According to a new report from Cisco, by 2019 online video will be 80 percent of all consumer Internet traffic.

You can create video walkthroughs and tutorials and mention your website and include a link in your video description.

5. Publish on LinkedIn Pulse

LinkedIn opened its publishing platform, Pulse to the public in February 2014. It allows you to reach millions of professionals. Don’t forget to use the appropriate tags for your article. It could help you to get picked and seen by more people.

Use high-quality images to boost your views. Read this guide to learn more about driving traffic from the LinkedIn pulse.

6. Post Your Content to LinkedIn Groups

Join LinkedIn groups related to your industry and engaged in the discussions. You can also share your articles and get some free traffic. LinkedIn traffic is very targeted, and there is a big chance to get some business there.

7. Increase Website traffic through PPC

PPC is short for Pay-Per-Click. It stands for all sorts of paid ads that you pay for when someone clicks on them. The most common PPC platform is Google itself as it offers a range of paid ads to search queries alongside the organic ranking.

As you can see from the screenshot PPC ads are displayed above and to the right of the organic (naturally grown) search results. These spaces are reserved for paid ads, which makes it attractive for webmasters and online shop owners to use paid ads to get traffic to their site. Especially for new websites, PPC is a great opportunity to generate traffic quickly. However once campaigns terminate you will usually experience a drastic drop in traffic.

PPC is a short term method to enhance traffic or to have constant visibility on the first page of search results. Unless you want to keep paying for your visitors, you will have to find additional sources to get people to your site.

8. Guest blogging as a well-established method

As a blogger, you will know about the importance of guest blogging. We hear about it many times in connection with SEO and backlink building. Publishing articles on websites other than your own have been a common, well-known and often practiced technique to push organic rankings.

From the SEO point of view, you would choose your guest blogging platforms according to relevancy to your own site, page and domain authority and backlink allowance. You would want that platform to link back to your site without adding a rel=”nofollow” to those links. For SEO it is important to get these follow links – I couldn’t agree with it any more than that.

But here we are looking at it from another angle. Driving traffic has a lot to do with SEO, and yet it is very different. While in SEO only certain links are of value (even more so since the infamous Panda and Penguin updates), the standards for driving traffic are different. The factors to be considered when choosing a platform to drive traffic to your website include the following:

  • Unique visitors per day of the site you want to publish on
  • Percentage of new visitors on that website
  • Backlink allowance (however it doesn’t matter whether or not it is a rel=”follow” link)
  • Relevancy (yes, it is important – not just for SEO!)
  • Free Blog branding

To drive people who are naturally interested in your topic to come to your website, you need to publish the right content on the right kind of platforms:

Just publishing anywhere won’t guarantee success. Maybe you will generate some traffic from it, but most likely that type of traffic (the non-targeted one) will lead to an increased bounce rate and nothing else.

9. Pin your website & blog posts on Pinterest

You can use Pinterest to promote your blog posts. All you need is a nice image to catch attention. You could also use Canva to create a nice image with the title of your blog post. Don’t forget to write a short description and to include hashtags.

10. Create SlideShares of Your Content

Do you have an interesting article on your blog? Why not transform it into slide presentation? Slideshare is a high traffic website where you can get additional traffic.

The most popular slide presentations use less text on a single slide. Check the best performing presentations related to your niche to get some ideas.

If your presentation is picked by the administrators and get featured on Slideshare homepage, you can get thousands of views

11. Create Infographics

Infographics are another way to repurpose your best content. You can use free tools such as Canva, Piktochart, or hire a freelancer. If you are on a budget, you can use Fiverr and get infographics for $5-25.

12. Add Sharing Buttons

Social sharing buttons encourage your visitors to share your content. Add the most popular social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and  LinkedIn. If you are running your blog on WordPress, there are many good plugins you can use.

13. Contact People Mentioned in Your Content

Did you mention any influential people or brands in your articles? Contact them on Email or their most active social media account. If your content is good and makes them look good, they will probably share it with their following.

14. Syndicate Your Content to Other Sites

Guest posting is time-consuming. If you don’t find the time you still can syndicate your content on other websites.

Just wait for Google to index your content on your blog first. To speed up the process you can share it on your social media accounts.

15. Republish Your Content

You can create a blog on Tumblr, Medium, Quora, or any other “secondary” blog platform and republish all of your content on it with links back to your site.

It is a good idea to wait for a few days to about a week after your article is published on your blog before doing this.

These websites are frequently indexed by Google, and if you republish right away, Google may decide that the original is article is hosted on the authority sites you republished your content. Use Canonical tag whenever possible.

16. Offer a Free Product

Create a simple info product on your website and give it for free. This could be a how-to guide, 10 tips to do something, etc. If your product is a great good, enough people will start sharing your website or blog page where you offer this free product.

17. Grow Your Email List

Building a mailing list is one of the best ways to grow your traffic and make money later on when you have something to sell such as products or services.  This is your loyal following who read your posts and sign up for any updates from you.

The easiest way to grow your list is to give something for free in return for people’s emails. This could be free info product; members-only email tips etc.

18. Use Snip.ly

When you share other people’s content on social media, you still can get some chunk of the traffic. You can use services like Snip.ly.

It creates a call to action at the bottom of the page you share where you can include a picture and a link.

19. Interview Influencers

By interviewing an influencer for your blog, you lend some of their credibility. If the interview is good, enough they will also share it with their audience.

20. Comment on Relevant Blogs

This is not very big on my list to increase website traffic, but if done right, it could do wonder for your website traffic.

Blog commenting can bring a lot of targeted traffic especially if you are one of the first commenters, and you write a meaningful comment.  Use RSS a  reader like Feedly and put together a list with the best blog in your industry.

Don’t promote yourself.  Using your name as a link is more than enough.

21. Create an eBook and List it On Amazon

This is time-consuming but can be rewarding.  Use your best content about a certain topic and compile an eBook. You can sell it or just offer it as free. Don’t forget to include links to your website in the ebook.

Bonus: Create a Free Online Course

Online education is very popular in the last few years. Because it is the fastest and cost-effective way to learn new skills. You can start with a small free course about a specific topic. Publish your course on popular platforms like Udemy and Creativelive.com.

How to use these options effectively to Drive more Traffic:

Now, I have introduced 21 effective ways to generate traffic.

If you are just starting off using these ways to drive your traffic, be careful to integrate them effectively. Each and every option is most effective when it is integrated well with the others.

Timing plays a major role in this process, too. Before starting to take action, make a plan. Determine short-term as well as long-term goals.

To wrap it, let me stress these 3 points which you should start with:

  • Use PPC when needed, but don’t make it your primary source of traffic.
  • Guest blogging should be done consistently; however, you will probably struggle to post a guest article daily. Set yourself a weekly or monthly goal for that and stick to it.
  • Social media will be a full-time job. You can’t limit interactions with readers to specific times. You have to be there, respond to questions, and encourage interaction. Otherwise, your platforms will become deserted.

Here’s a visualization of how these three ways can be integrated effectively:

PPC is a great option to start driving traffic. But don’t just rest while your ads are running.

Start creating unique quality articles and try to spread them across several other platforms. As you do that ad social media profiles to your mix of traffic sources.

  20. Sanjeev Meena

Hi @danny nice write up! Especially that quora part which is really a great idea. I’m using quora from last few months and it really works. In fact I was shocked when I got to knew that there is a larger community looking for some real help and one can drive thousand(s) of extra traffic through it. Before using it I was not aware about its power.
However I still see Organic traffic as more targeted but these ways can also do wonder in driving traffic. Especially for new sites or seperate blogs.
