15 Bad Habits That Can Kill Your Blogging Career

“Pobody is Nerfect.”

This rule applies to bloggers too who work hard daily to explore new things on the web and give new information through their blog. But lots of bloggers do mistakes in their early stages of blogging. It’s hard and rare to accept those mistakes.

I want to explore some common bad habits of Bloggers, which results in loss of productivity. One should avoid these habits.

Common Bad Habits
  • Save

List of Bad Habits that every blogger should stay away from:

I’m writing this post by keeping Bloggers in mind, but some of these bad habits apply to normal Internet users too. So, you can start working on them and change your habits to be a better person.

1. Social media addiction

Social media is good to bring traffic on the blog. But involving too much in social media and forget your original work (generating content) is not good for your blog. Try to avoid too much social media involvement. Remember that content is the king and it is responsible for traffic. Social media is a secondary thing.

2. Work from bed

There are many bloggers who work from bed, and they stick to this habit. If you work 1 hour, then it would not be a serious issue, but if you are giving 7 to 10 hours daily for your work then it is a serious matter. For those people, we already give some tips to setup office at home for professional blogging.

3. Never proofread articles

I already told you that proofreading article is the best way to find your errors inside the post. Try to read two or three times to find mistakes in your post. Also, ensure that don’t start editing your post while writing it.

4. Giving current news

If your blog has some decent traffic then providing breaking news is not incorrect because your post will get a good exposure. But if your blog gets a fever traffic then it is not a good idea to show current news through your blog. Remember, there are several good blogs which are doing this work properly and efficiently.

5. Too much coffee

Coffee is good when you take breaks during your work. But consuming too much coffee (nicotine) is not good for your health and your work. It will effect your mind and overall productivity.

6. Working in cluttered space

Either you are working from home, or you work in the office you need to take care of one thing that your work space should be separated from rest of your home. If you are making your bed room as your office, then make sure that your room should be spacious, having windows for natural lights and free from any disarrangement.

7. Being nonsocial

My friends always complain that I never find too much time for them. I involve in my work so much that I never found time for any social activities which are not good. I am trying to improve my habit. I take a break from my work (on Sunday) and plan movies and dinner with friends.

8. Working late night

Bloggers love to work late night. Probably this is because in the night they found no disturbance. They free to do all their pending work in silence. But I suggest you work in day time. Try to wake early morning and start working with the fresh mind. You don’t need to follow strict 9 to 6 office time but completing all work early in a day would invite some relief to you.

9. Drinking habit

We came up with post Why Bloggers Drink and How to Avoid Drinking in which we discussed the rise of drinking and smoking culture in bloggers. We also give ideas to get rid of this habit.

10. No vacations

Working all the time causes lots of strain inside our brain. It increases your stress level, and you may lose your interest in your work. Vacation gives us the opportunity to recharge and regenerate our power. Try to schedule your post in WordPress and fly off somewhere. In this period do not do any work instead of checking important mail and replying to clients.

11. Information Overloading

Most of the people are victims of this bad habit. By information overloading, what I mean is that people read, read and read. They gain so much knowledge that it becomes practically impossible to implement all that you have learned and thus all the information that you gained becomes of no use. This not only leads to loss of money but you lose time which you could have invested and turned your efforts into profits.

12. Failure phobia

Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. -Albert Einstein

I really like this quote made by Albert Einstein and it really inspires me. The same holds true for blogging. If you want to succeed, you have to try new things. Nobody is ever going to tell you their secret to success, you have to create your own and this can be done only by investing your time experimenting with new things and ideas.

13. No self-confidence

Self-confidence is something that provokes you to try new things and implement new ideas. Well, I was highly inspired by the movie ” Kung-fu Panda” and learned that the power lies within you.

You must have faith in your capabilities and choose approachable goals. If you feel that your idea is just another crazy thing that the whole world has already thought of but failed, then you must strive to find the reason behind their failure and think out a way to convert it into a pure success.

14. I’m an expert

Well, this is another habit that arises from Information Overloading. When people gain a lot of knowledge they start to consider themselves as experts in that field even if they have never practically tried what they learned.

If you belong to this group of “experts”, then I would suggest you introspect and get a clear picture of what you really know and how much value do you hold.

15. You just don’t take criticism seriously

Well you do what you want, right ?

Who are others to criticize you, right?

Well, NO you should take and accept criticism in a positive manner. Criticism should inspire you to do better and not dishearten you.

I have faced criticism a lot of times, even when I think I did the best anyone could do. But that’s OK with, I took every comment as an inspiration to do better and hope to get a positive note from the criticizer.

  5. 1 and 2, thats applies to me but I do not think they are Bad Habits. I surely agree they are not good either.

    It about your personal comfort.

    1. Harsh Agrawal

Deepak I agree with you on point 1. If you use if effectively its good..
On point 2, I will say its a bad habit because its direct impact is on your health.

  6. Harsh! Well done! I would like to add one more tip for Part time bloggers. Don’t do your blogging activities while working in your office. Do your ‘Day job’ perfect. Never bother about your limited time but keep energy for your blogging hours. Don’t consider blogging as your second job! It’s fun for your leisure time .

  7. r4i revolution gold

There is good information about bad habits of bloggers.I must say that you have covered all points of bad habits.Well I am in favor to take vacation as vacation is good for us.WE can also get some new ideas from that.I do appreciate you for writing these ten bad habits of bloggers.

  8. I have 1,2,5,6,8,10 of the mentioned trying hard to be regular, if possible have an article for that. Thanks for the share 🙂

  9. I’m away from drinking habit. But trying to improve my habit of doing more work in the early mooring instead of spending late nights on my computer.

  10. I don’t drink coffee, but I get my caffeine from lots and lots of pop (or soda, whichever you want to call it). I don’t think I could work without some sort of caffeine… Eespecially since I’m guilty of number 8 too!

  11. I try not to comment those habits. But at times I tend to find myself playing around on Facebook or Twitter during my blogging and commenting time.

The only time I use my laptop in bed is right before bed and thats mostly commenting or working on the first draft of a blog post that I am not planning to post for a few days. I never do anything important in the bed when it comes to blogging. I am just not that productive.

I think I’m most guilty of is procrastination. After work some nights, I am just to tired to want to do anything, including social media. I put off for 30 mins and it turns into 4 hours. By then its to late to work on the blog.

  12. Great mention about proofreading. I occasionally ask my wife to check my writing for mistakes even after I have proofread it twice.

You didn’t mention this but hopefully bloggers are getting in enough physical activity to help maintain good health. A sedentary lifestyle is not good for the body or the mind.

  13. Kothapally Arun

    Another great posts.

Liked all the points and also those which Himanshu mentioned.

The fourth one is something which I took a lot of time to realize!!!

    Thanks for the list.

  14. My problem is somewhat different, I don’t involve much on social networks and that’s the problem my blog gets less exposure. Anything in mind for this, Harsh?

  15. perfect… all of you have wrote is my habits. Thanks for remind me.. Haha.. late to know your wonderful blog. It’s too much experience and knowledge in here…

  16. oh ! thats a good post and helpful for us ! , i should change my habits for 5,6,8,10 – too bad.
have to get a vacation and participate my other works instead of blogging for some days

  17. I need to generate more and more content but before that I need vacation!

BTW how about a post about scheduling and prioritizing tasks between blogging and freelancing?
