All of us wants to give more exposure to our blog, and there are various ways by which you can increase your blog exposure and also improve traffic. Submitting your blog to blog directories will help you in multiple ways:
- Your blog will be exposed to a completely new audience.
- Traffic from blog directories is highly targeted.
- You will be generating a good number of backlinks to your blog.
I was experimenting with one niche site call “Moviesonhacking” which I’m working on, and I used blog directories to see the effect on search engine ranking. Here is the list of verified blog directories where you can submit your blog. This list is manually verified by @Sharatnik and thanks to him for creating such epic list of blog directories.
Verified Blog Directories to submit your blog:
I recommend you to first make a new notepad file and write few details like:
- Name of the blog:
- URL of the blog:
- Feed URL of the blog
- Description of the blog in 2-3 lines
As this will make the submission task easier. I have broken down the list into:
- Websites where you can directly submit your blog.
- Reciprocal link or badge required.
- Websites to submit RSS feeds
I’m not a big fan of websites which requires a reciprocal link or ask you to add a badge, and I suggest the same with you. Apart from that this list is manually verified and you can start submitting your blog right now. They would definitely increase visibility but don’t expect a lot of traffic by submitting to blog directories alone.

I have read many articles titled “Verified blog directories” but none of them are totally verified. But, this list is awesome.

I am kind of a layman at this which is why my question might sound a little naive.
I have always read across multiple blogs that relevancy is integral when it comes to receiving a backlink from a particular website. In this case, wouldn’t it be counterproductive for Blogs that get a link back from directories? since directories host a range of content related to a range of categories?
Wouldn’t this be considered as activity that could be penalized by Googles updates?

You are right here with your point, but the thing is these directories are more for getting your content discovered than getting backlinks.
About the notepad thing, i’ve been doing that in the past a well. So, it was quite relatable to see people using similar stuff.
The list is nice, I hope they still work to improve the rankings of a website. Going to try it.

Nice sharing but these days no one knows which directory is Penguin safe or not even Yahoo is closing this December and this all is due to Google updates, I would recommend not to submit in them as they accept money also.

Are these directories Google Penguin penalty safe?

That’s a good question and I would recommend drip-feed your submission, that will not harm. Most of these directories are genuine so you won’t be affected with Penguin. My only suggestion would be, also build links from other sources (Genuine one). Check these two posts:

There are a few tools like scrapebox and gsa search engine ranker but I recommend that you do the job manually as it brings you a lot more control on the types of link you are building and also help to stay under the spam radar. Good Luck..
