Why People Blog?

in Blogging

I’m keeping the title of this post short and meaningful “ Why people Blog”. I was drafting a post on my blogging journey and realized I have never written a post about why people blog.  Many people hope to see an obvious answer (Money), but that’s not true. People blog for many reason. Here are some of the reasons which I can think of, rest you can add contribute as a comment :

Hobby/ Interest/Writing

This is one of the most common reason people start blogging. Many people like to write and they write for themselves. Basically this is what Blogging is all about. Such people who start blogging, they never care about blogging platform, traffic and comments. People who start blogging out of hobby write for themselves and if someone add a comment on their blog, they consider it as achievement. I believe this should be the first reason why you should blog.

Fame/ Popularity

When people see any successful man  they tries to follow their path. When I was a kid, I used to see Sachin Tendulkar (Famous cricketer), I thought of becoming a cricketer, When I used to see celebrities posters on newspaper and TV’s I though of becoming a Film star. This is not me, this is human tendency. Same is in the case of Blogging. When people see a successful Blogger like Darren, Amit Agarwal, John Chow, Rahul Bansal , who have money and fame. They try to be like them. This is not a bad approach, but what they miss is Passion, which is foundation of blogging. Quick Fame and popularity is not possible in Blogging journey. Every Success is followed by lots of hurdles, and if you planning to blog for fame or popularity, don’t try to jump, Blogging works best when you crawl.

Money

The most appealing side of Blogging is money which seems to be as easy as clicking few buttons of mouse but it is not. Most people start blogging for money. No doubt blogging is a gold mine for people who look forward to make money online, but from my experience it’s not the easiest way to make money online. If you want to blog just for money, you should have a well planned road map for your blog and a targeted niche or user base.

Knowledge Sharing and Learning

In early days, when someone start a blog, apart from above 3 reasons 4th reason could be knowledge sharing. People like to show the world what they know, or their blog become a diary for them, where they write about things they know. That’s how many people end up creating niche blog or blog with multiple topics. In the initial days, many few people knows they can make money blogging. Even I was not aware of the fact that I can make money from blogging. Adsense and make money online stuff, used to be a spam word for me. Though it turns out to be wrong later on.

Job Hunt

This is the latest addition in reason why people start a blog. Many programmer and developer who are incredibly amazing with their programming skills, they create a blog, and start posting about programs, algo and stuff related to their field. Many human resource and company marketer pick up people directly from their blog.

Recession

I have spoken about Job hunt via blogging, but this is another side of coin. People start blogging because company can’t keep them because of recession effect and people blog to pay their bill or to take care of boredom. One such person whom I know is Sandeep, Who started blogging, when his IT firm started cutting down head count to survive in the recession.

I guess these are one of the most popular reason why people blog. What’s your reason behind blogging? Why do you blog?

I blog because it makes me feel content, the feeling of sharing with fellow bloggers who understand and appreciate you passion is inspiring. It gives me a voice on the internet, my own little area where I can do things my way.

I started blogging because of my interest and passion. Every time I faced problems, I get a helpful hands by you and other friends. Money is the secondary reason because I was earning money from my job too.

Great list. I think many bloggers have $ in their eyes when they start.

I also want to add one more comment reason why blogs exist. Many are used to promote products, services, or branding and not necessarily to earn income directly. The purpose rather is to indirectly provide a benefit to the corporation or entity.

Correct .

I blog maily out of interest and passion in spreading the knowledge . Money is a by product . People who mainly start blogging for money only and have no passion cant succeed.

I love to write and it was not blogging related. Even though I am blogging as a job, I took it up mainly because I felt it would be awesome to be paid to write.
I think writing is the main passion, the rush that comes when someone likes and say they found your post informative or thank you for a tip that you share. I think if you are not writing for that rush you should not try blogging, atleast as a career.

I started blogging to make money, but as I have progressed, I feel the real reason I am doing it is to build relationships and get to know more people from different parts of the world.

Nice points. One reason my blog exists is to connect to my audience for a larger goal of creating awareness about our website.
