Services like Twitter have initiated the concept of URL shorteners and nowadays, we keep hearing about new URL shortening services. I have been using many of them, and many of them work great.

Especially, when you are sharing anything on Twitter, it’s better to use any of the below-mentioned URL Shortener Websites, so that your tweet will be less than 280 characters and can be retweetable by others. Most of the popular websites and web services are coming up with custom shorteners. For example:

  • Google URL shortening link is Goo.gl.

1. Linktree

Linktree is a popular service that allows you to add multiple links within one link. Your URL would look something like linktr.ee/denharsh. What you would like most about Linktr.ee service is, they have a working mobile app, which let you add, remove or customize link while you are on the move.

Linktr.ee offers free and paid plans, and depending upon your business and marketing goal, you could pick a suitable plan.

2. Bit.ly

Bit.ly is one of the best URL compressor tools.  It quickly lets you shorten any URL and since this service is online for many years, you can rely on it. Once you share those shortened link, bit.ly provides you data such as:

  • Number of clicks
  • Referrers
  • Locations with country breakdown

Bit.ly offers a free and premium plan. The free plan is good enough for casual usage and for business purposes, you can upgrade to Bitly enterprise. In this, you will get the following benefits:

  • Unlimited custom-branded links
  • Export analytics beyond a 30-day range
  • Centralized campaign performance reports
  • Route users by device type, app presence, and location
  • Scale with API integrations and multiple user seats

Though I don’t recommend using Bit.ly for those who are into affiliate marketing.  According to Bit.ly FAQ, they add affiliate cookies into the URL shortened by free users. So you might miss out on the commission for shortened affiliate link via Bit.ly.

    And are my favorites

I have been using bit.ly for about 10 weeks and have been very satisfied with the services. However, in the last week, my total click numbers have been reversing downward? It’s not corresponding with my other analytics so I believe the problem is with the service. I am still awaiting a response from them but does anyone know how this could happen?

  5. Duder

Does facebook like it when you use link shortener for facebook ads? Back in 2010 they were banning people from using bit.ly in their ads.

Altough great list. my personally favorites are goo.gl and bit.ly.. I have inspired by bit.ly website and developed my own URL shortener website. Anyways Thanks for the useful post 🙂

I heard about the first four url’s but I didn’t here the last one. However we need to use branded shortening url service’s other wise if we use the services which may close at any time then our links get broken.

  11. Rakesh @ Wizard Journal

    i also use su.pr and t.co

  12. shyam jos

currently Goo.gl and Bit.ly are my favorites

  13. Vincent Chow

I would be extra cautious when I see goo.gl links, spammers have been abusing it for quite some time. I’d use bit.ly on most occasion, for it’s one of the most popular shortener, and definitely looks more genuine than a goo.gl link.

    1. Anoop Sudhakaran

I agree with you that bit.ly looks more genuine , because of the fact that it has been around for quite a long time and goo.gl is fairly new and many dont know about it.

  14. Anand Kumar

I am not one who likes to see adf.ly on any site- including mine also.

    It will irritate visitors.

    1. Marcel Bijl

i am not a adfly fan also,

But it is good for out bounding links in your blog ( they come in free and they leave paying 😉 )

And adfly has the light mode, only showing a banner on the top of the page.
This pays a lot less but is also more user friendly.

  15. Jan Firsching

I use su.pr with the StumbleUpon Connection. So you shorten your URLs and also get some traffic back from StumbleUpon

  16. Tinh

Great collection but I am stick to bit.ly with great and advanced features 🙂

  17. Amandeep

All above mentioned sites are really useful , but goo.gl gives excellent service & support. so i will recomment goo.gl to shorten your url for your blog

  18. Usman@FirstHosting

goo.gl is best because very easy interference and easy way to track how many people clicked and visited your site.

and even it gives seo juice to your link as well, so I think its perfect.

  19. Anoop Sudhakaran

goo.gl is the best and beats all its competitors…
