Do you remember the time when you wrote your first post? How great you must have felt as your blog was up & running. Now, if it’s been more than a month or two for you, compare your current post with the old one.
The old one sucks! right?
Well, you are not the only one to feel this way, as most of us have gone through a similar experience. Over time, you will realize that blogging gives you an unmatched freedom that you do not get in a normal corporate job. It is pretty great!
Don’t you want to continue blogging in the future & be your own boss forever? If your answer is yes, I need your undivided attention.
What I’m going to share today is already known to you but you might not have considered it yet.
How many times have you read stuff like:
‘Video’ is the future.
Money is in video advertising.
Facebook gives extra visibility to videos.
Youtube is still the world’s 2nd most popular search engine.
This is an important thing that you need to know if you are serious about your career as a blogger.
Videos are the next big thing & over time, it would completely change the way we blog. We are already seeing a big shift as people are starting off as Video bloggers (also known as YouTubers) instead of having a traditional blog.
People who love to consume content by reading, they prefer consuming the same piece of content as video format on their mobile, tablet or of-course laptop.
Why is it so?
There are multiple reasons for this & a few that I can think of right now are:
Advanced Tools and Software for quick video production
Thanks to advanced technology, creating videos is not hard anymore. The front cameras in smartphones are getting better, in turn making it easier to create videos.
Unlike the old times, editing videos have become easier. With software’s like Camtasia and Final cut pro, we can now edit the videos we want. Â Even if you find it hard to use the software, watch a couple of free Final Cut Pro videos on Youtube or free Camtasia tutorials on their official site.
Mobile video editors are getting really powerful as well. Recently, I was playing with a few iOS based mobile video editors and realized how easy it is to create a professional looking video on the iPhone. Don’t believe me? Try these mobile apps:
Adobe clip, AvFx, Adobe Spark video, VSCO.
Improved bandwidth & Internet Speed
Remember those days when opening a webpage used to take minutes?Â
Yeah, that was an annoyance. But, these days websites take seconds to load and a slow website could be bad for business. Improved bandwidth has considerably helped in an increase of video consumption. Also, because of smartphones being ubiquitous now and the fact that the screens are smaller helps the case for video consumption.
So if you are in a niche & your target demographic is someone with a medium or a high-income source, chances are they might be watching videos through the mobile.
For a few developing countries where users are not accustomed to carrying headphones when traveling, video consumption might not be so high. Still, as I said earlier, things are catching up.
In a nutshell, video consumption has increased considerably & producing videos has become easier (Both on desktop & on mobile). It requires less time & advanced software makes it easier to produce your video in a professional way.
Now, moving on to the main topic of this reality check post for those of you who are producing content only in the text format. Wake up!
[Tweet “This is the perfect time for you to get into producing video content. “]
Again! Remember your first blog post?Â
Just start! You can make mistakes and starting off  could be as simple as recording your first screencast tutorial (Recording your desktop screen to explain the working of a software or a web-app).
Oh! and if you are afraid about the quality of your video, here is one thing you should know:
You are not going to improve if you don’t start off somewhere.Â
Here are some tips to start off right now:
You can use Camtasia (Mac + windows) or Screenflow to make a screencast. You can also use your smartphone to share something which is useful for others.
In the coming days, I will be sharing detailed tutorials, tips & ideas to help you create great video content. But, it would be useful only when you make your first video as soon as possible.
If you created a video after this, do share the link in the comments section. Also, for posted video links in the comment section by other users, do help them by giving honest feedback to improve their videos. Ensure your comments are supportive and constructive to help the person understand the mistakes(if any) & improve.

Hi Harsh,
I agree with what you wrote about making videos. Vlogging is the future. Even I started my YouTube channel but I’m not able to update it regularly. Creating good video takes a lot of time (at least for me).
I grabbed your point bro – my YouTube video channel is now making real incomes on automation though I lost my main account because of copyright issues.
Thanks for revealing this niche!!

I have started posting video tutorials on my blog and have a youtube channel. I’m learning how to viral video and extend my reach to niche audience. Yes i have seen many video get viral compare to content and people love to share video than text blog post.
Thanks for your awaken belling. I’ve already noticed the video content is raising monthly but until read you post, I just really realize it’s time to begin video marketing.
Thank you Henry,
Video marketing is really good and if you’re not yet into it, I suggest you start immediately.
Thanks for coming.
Hello Harsh, I also want to include videos in the post but I am not able to take that much intrest in Creation of videos. I will again try with the above mentioned tool. Thanks for sharing
Welcome Nayan,
Try it and let me know how it goes. Thanks for stopping by.
We’re getting lazy! I must admit I spend a lot watching video tutorials instead of reading a huge post. You’re totally right!
I agree with you,
But it’s about time we stop getting lazy and start doing what we ought to do.
Thanks for the visit.
A lot people prefer video content over written content now, but there are advantages and disadvantages too. Definitely use both are great.
Good point LH,
The best to go is to use both of them that way, you’ll be serving two different audiences at once.
Thanks for that point man.
Harsh,
Thanks for this small notice. I also notice video being on the rise, especially for entertainment industries. In other fields like content marketing, and blogging you also see folks starting to make videos (like Brian Dean and Ahrefs) instead of only the traditional written format.
I am a little shy when it comes to videos though. 😛 Come to think of it, does ShoutMeLoud make any, I’d love to check them out.
Cheers,
Anh
Absolutely ANH,
Video marketing has been on the rise for awhile now which is the more reason everyone should jump into it for more brand exposure.
Talking about being shy, I think a lot of people are but that shouldn’t prevent you from doing what is required of you to grow your business.
You can always create tutorial type videos where you’ll be teaching your audience how to do a particular thing related to your niche thereby recording your laptop screen.
This type of video does not require you to record your face apart from your voice and the screen of your PC.

Thanks for coming.
Dear Harsh

I will suggest you first of all move your site to WordPress. If you want to be getting organic traffic then you have to start perform indept keyword research for your blog posts.
Search engine traffic don’t usually come by accident, you have to consciously work for it,
Get used to keyword research
See what other blogs in the same niche are doing using tools like Similarweb, opensiteexplorer etc.
See what these sites are doing better than you and then emulate them.
Create epic contents that’s better than what’s already on the Internet.

Hello Harsh Sir,
I learn Many things from your post. This post is also awesome.
Whenever I want to write something, I just search google and modify others writing, So How can I Develop my thinking power to improve my own writing skill. My English skill is also weak.
What plugin you use for subscribe button in every video post in your Blog?
Writing is what you learn with time,
It does not require any special skill except doing it all the time. In simple terms, if you want to be a good writer, read a lot and write a lot.
Thanks and good luck
Hi Harsh,
You know, Recently I have started blogging. I would like to create video content for my blog or some blog posts. But I’m not good at English speaking. So what can I do? Please give me an advice.
However, thanks for sharing this information.
@Palash
I believe your target audience are Primarily people who speak English. Your problem is not unique as many other users including me don’t have English as the first language. I would suggest start making videos & thrive to improve every day. It would take a lot of practice & patience to get it right.
If you have a Toastmasterclub or any similar group in your city, do join that too. https://www.toastmasters.org/
Don’t worry about making mistakes initially! It would only get better with time!
Thanks for sharing this post sir. I was being distracted but your post again motivated me. thank you very much.
You’re welcome Tashif
