I have already shared my detailed review of Hostgator hosting and despite of problems I had with them in the past, they are still one of the best hosting solution for WordPress. Hostgator offers various hosting plans and most popular one is Baby hosting plan, which offers unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage and unlimited domains. It means, with one Baby hosting plan you can host unlimited Websites. I personally host 5 medium traffic Website on Baby plan and uptime is great.

Many new users who signed up for Hostgator, are unaware of adding addon domain into Hostgator account and in this tutorial, I will share how you can add more domains to your HG account. Even if you have purchased domain from ShoutMydomain, Godaddy or Name cheap, all you need to do is, change Name server of domain to point to your Hostgator account and add your domain as addon domains from Hostgator cPanel.
How to use Hostgator Addon domains feature:
This tutorial is valid for Baby or business shared hosting plan. Login to your Hostgator account and click on Addon domains under domains section. See the screenshot for better understanding:
You will be redirected to Addon domains screen, where you need to enter few details which I have explained below.
Under New domain name, enter the domain name you wish to add to your hostgator account. You need to create a FTP username and password. You can always generate a complicated password by using Password generator offered under cPanel. Document root section defines the root of domain you adding. I usually use Public_html/domainname as Document root, as it helps me when I need to give FTP access to developers.
Once done, click on add Domain and you have successfully added addon domain to your Hostgator account.
This feature is also useful, when you have purchased other domain extension (.org, info) to preserve your brand name, as after adding addon domains, you can use Hostgator redirection feature on the same page to redirect domains to your main domain name.
This tutorial will work with any other Webhosting company (Ex: Bluehost) which offers standard cPanel.
What to do next After Adding addon domain?
As I mentioned above, you can always use redirection feature to redirect domain to your main domain or if you creating a new blog, you can refer to my guide on How to Install WordPress on Hostgator.
Additionally, if you have few domains under your domain registrar and you are not doing anything to them, I recommend you to Install WordPress instead of keeping them idle and read my guide on SEO for parked domains, to make most out of it.
