There are many in-text advertising networks on the market, and most of them fall dramatically short in payout. Today I will share my review of Sovrn Commerce, another Affiliate network, but with a very interesting twist!

If you have read my monthly income reports, you know that most of my income comes from affiliate marketing.

For this reason, I am constantly trying out new affiliate networks that sound promising. I recently heard about Sovrn Commerce, and it sounded interesting for the purpose of further blog monetization, so I tried it for a two-week period on one of my blogs.

Before we move forward with my review based on my two-week experience, let me offer a little background on affiliate marketing for new bloggers who may read this article.

In affiliate marketing, we recommend products to our readers, and if they buy the product using the unique affiliate URL we provide, then we get a referral income from the purchase. The money we make from this type of affiliate referral is more than what we can make from AdSense clicks.

For further reading on this, you can grab my Affiliate marketing eBook:

If I could share one secret that could help you to earn affiliate income from a site in any niche, it would be the following:

Sovrn Commerce – content monetization made easy with affiliates:

Sovrn Commerce is one of the best ways to make money from blogging. Sovrn Commerce works in a very different way than other blog monetization programs.

Sovrn Commerce converts your normal outgoing links into affiliate links, and if users make a purchase, you earn a referral commission from it.  The best part is that you don’t need to be signed up for an individual affiliate account on all networks. Sovrn Commerce tracking takes care of all of them!

For example, if you have a tech blog and you write about iPhone and iPad apps, Sovrn Commerce will automatically convert those outbound links into affiliate links.

When you would typically make no money for such links, with SovrnCommerce you will be earning money whenever somebody buys a paid app from the app store.

Sovrn Commerce automatically monetizes all outbound links, allowing you to make a handsome income from them. I will share my Sovrn Commerce income report after this review.

All of this is done with the help of Javascript, so it’s SEO friendly, and it works with AdSense as well.

In a normal scenario, you are linking to product pages on many sites, and you don’t make any money when people buy or download the product. Sovrn Commerce is an easy way to monetize these links.

It is also important to note that if you are already using affiliate links on your website, Sovrn Commerce does not change those links.

Setting up Sovrn Commerce is easy; all you need to do is add a line of code to your site source, and Sovrn Commerce will take care of the rest.

When I started using Sovrn Commerce, I had two major questions and concerns, so I contacted David Gorcey, a member of the Sovrn Commerce team, who answered my questions in detail.

Question: Sometimes, my Sovrn Commerce dashboard shows clicks, but I see no revenue (or vice-versa):

David: This is because merchants sometimes don’t report revenue until the day an item ships, rather than the day it was purchased. So what you are seeing is that the revenue for some transactions isn’t accruing to your account until a few days later as these items were probably back ordered.

As such, even though you had already removed the tags at the beginning of February, some items users had purchased in January had not yet shipped, and therefore the revenue didn’t show up in your account until later. Hopefully, that makes sense, but let me know if you’d like further explanation.

Question: Are publishers accepted to all merchants, or do some merchants have a whitelist?

David: It is true that some merchants have a whitelist, and that means that we need to add a publisher to their program manually before they will allow affiliation of clicks to them. There are only a handful of merchants we work with that have this type of setup, and most are in the fashion vertical. So overall, you don’t need to be accepted to merchant programs through us, except in a few cases.

The main takeaway is that you will be covered for pretty much any merchant we have that you link to, as I don’t think your content really applies to the merchants with whitelists, however, I’d be happy to look and make sure we try to add you to them if it turns out that you send clicks there.

I’m not going to go into a lot more detail here, except to say that my experience with Sovrn Commerce has been great, and I have had no issues with payment to date. They pay by PayPal, and to date, I have received all of the payments on time.

At this time of updating this review of SovrnCommerce, they offer multiple payment options:

Note: You can signup as an individual or as a company.

With regard to revenue split, Sovrn Commerce keeps 25% of the commission, and 75% goes into our pockets, which is not bad considering the fact that we are making money from links that were previously non-monetized.

Let’s have a brief look at some of the pros and cons of the Sovrn Commerce program:

Pros:

  • It’s SEO friendly
  • Smart way to make money from website
  • Hassle-free set-up (offers plugin too)
  • Payment on time via multiple payment options
  • You can control how linking will happen
  • More money than in-text ads
  • Supports multiple platforms (blogs, forums)
  • Doesn’t violate AdSense policies

Cons:

  • Nothing major!

The closest competitor to Sovrn Commerce is Skimlinks, and we will look into Skimlinks in a future post.

There are many affiliate programs in which you can’t be a direct partner. For example, not everyone can be an affiliate partner with the Apple app store, but with Sovrn Commerce you can easily monetize all app store links with one link of code. Now, how about you are sharing a direct link to app store product on your fan page or Twitter stream, and that’s where this Sovrn Commerce link wrapper tool comes into the picture.

This affiliate link wrapper tool will let you create an affiliated link or you can also shorten your affiliated link with bit.ly directly. Here is a screenshot of how Sovrn Commerce link wrapper tool works:

  • Save

Personally, I feel this tool is very useful for a Blogger and internet marketers to add another monetization scheme to their blog. If you use any URL shortener to add a dime to your earnings, instead of that this affiliate link wrapper tool will boost your earnings.

You need to login to your Sovrn Commerce dashboard > Click on tools > Link Wrapper Tool and enter the URL for which you need to get an affiliated link. You can take advantage of this tool to find if any particular merchant is a part of the Sovrn commerce program or not.

I hope this Sovrn Commerce review has helped you to find one more network that is useful for making money from your blog. If you have used this network before, please feel free to share your feedback and review it in the comments section below.

If you find this post useful, do share it with your friends and colleagues on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.

    I am confused

sounds nice – but what if your links are just linking to another blog etc.. what would happen? Does vigilink track that click then wait until that certain visitor (who clicked your link) purchased a product from another merchant (lets say that it would happen like 3 or TEN clicks after they clicked a link from your site?) or do you really NEED to link to an actual affiliated merchant for this to work?

TIA Harsh -OR anyone who can answer my question

My personal view and experience is that, Infolinks AD are much more better than VigLink. The reason behind this statement is that while using VigLink, they only pay you, if a user buys a product by clicking on your link and that is not always happening because the user may change his mind later on if he finds a better product. But Infolinks will pay per views, which is more adorable. And again this is just my personal opinion and more over if your blog views perday is in thousands then you are gonna make some good amount from that but that aint true for the viglinks ads. If I would prioritize the ads then I would go as 1 Adsense Google, 2 Bing Adsense, 3 Infolinks, 4 buysell ads, 5 viglinks.

      @Prabhudatta
It all depends upon the kind of niche you are blogging in. If you are using lot of commerce keywords and getting organic traffic, VigLink would give better result. If you are blogging on random niche and getting traffic from everywhere (Untargeted), Infolinks might work better.

    Harsh,
Before some days I had replaced infolinks with viglinks in my blogsite (Its not built on wordpress) but its not creating links in it. Is there any requirement for that such as links without source or something??
And also how it will know my affiliate id while generating link?
    Please Assist.

  5. Mehul Boricha

Thank you Harsh for this awesome article. Currently i am using infolinks. Hope that this viglink will generate more revenue. Can you suggest any other service which is better than viglink also…

    1. Ashutosh Jha

      Hi Mehul,

You can try inline ad networks similar to infolinks, “koentra”. It is also good ad platform.

  6. Joseph

In my opinion, Infolinks are much more better than VigLink. Because while using VigLink, they only pay you, if a user buys a product by clicking on your link. But Infolinks will pay per views, which is more adorable. Uh.. it’s just my own opinion. If your blog and website get some good k views, you will definitely get paid an awesome $$..!

  7. Nilantha Madhushanka

I think this will be a good option for affiliate links. There are many positive and negative reviews about Viglink on Internet.

But after reading this post of yours, I will give it a try.

    Thanks.

  8. Kailash Mahadik

Hi harsh, thanks for the tips.. I think i should replace my infolink intexts ads with Viglinks as infolink isn’t profiting my website

  9. Harman

    Hey Harsh,
Can we use this simultaneously with Google adsense?

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @Harman
Yes you can. Viglink can be placed along with AdSense.

  10. arojoy

Just added VigLink in my blog..hoping for results 🙂

  11. Satya Srinivas

    Hi,

Currently using VigLink on my new blog. Is Skimlinks better than VigLink. Please advice.

  12. King

this one sounds really interesting… I think its high time for me to check this on my website which has no revenue model other than Google Adsense.. wish this one works as per my needs..

  13. Rauzet moustache

Viglink is not working for me at all, I have tried it for a little over a month and not even a penny. I still have it running but not for long.

  14. Rahul Mehta

I made around 50 $ from viglink and now i have removed the script . very low payout
i used to get around 40-50 clicks and the payout was like 0.50 to 1 $ .

  15. Kaushal

Great review. I will try setting up viglinks on my blog after checking skimlinks. Monetizing through affiliate programs is much better then infolinks as it gives much better money.

  16. Ajay

I wasn’t aware that Viglink uses Javascript. I was always worried about the link juice.
Also, i am not having good experience with Viglink. Even though i am having good traffic, It never earned me anything.
But after reading this review of yours, i will give it a try once again.

    1. Android Lounge

its worth giving a shot, this program works better with US/UK. Traffic, i’ve had days were in single day had earned $50-60 from this program.

      1. Harsh Agrawal

Thanks for sharing your experience.. May I know on which niche your blog is about, where you using Viglink?
I have tried Viglink on a fashion blog and it worked out really great…

    2. Obi

      Hello Harsh,
I tried this on my fashion blog and my server hosting company (BlueHost) shut down my blog for several hours until I removed it. They said it was causing excessive issue on my site and which was affecting other people in the same shared server. I just don’t know what other means I could use to earn from my fashion and lifestyle blog.

  17. abhilash

    thank you harsh,
this review is come on right time for me . i am working on mobile niche and lot of link going out to apps and accessories, so i think i can able to make some money form this program.
    thak you again

  18. Zenil Shroff

Extremely good program for making money besides adsense, i’ve had months where i earned $175-200 from this program alone and the best part is that it automatically links to affiliate keywords and no link juice is passed from the page as its javascript.

I also recommend Luminate for monetizing images.

    1. Chetan

Have you tried Luminate? I noticed that they don’t have very good reputation with MyWOT.

  19. PrIyAnGsHu

Were you be able to make anything out of this program?

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @Priyangshu
I used this for around two weeks on my Tech blog where I was not making much with Infolinks. It made around $40 and later I removed it to lower down ads. Since my model of making money is different, you will notice I don’t use any In-text ads here.

  20. Orb Web

I have VigLink on my site, but removed it totally except for one link. It used to add link where I don’t want and don’t put links where I wanted… It gave some bugs with my modal boxes and when I told them, they correct it within 12 hours (I’m not even sure if I contact Google for a problem like this they will even read the email and answered) anyway, it’s maybe my topic who doesn’t match well with their customers need but for my part, it didn’t paid well…
