On the 1st of December 2012, Shoutmeloud had its 4th anniversary and I wanted to write my blogging journey which could help others to take up blogging as a serious career. This is going to be lengthy and bit boring, as it’s about me and my blogging journey so far. So if you are passionate about blogging then only read it, otherwise check out the other categories of ShoutMeLoud. This post is all about how I started my first blog and later on how I created a network of blogs, after one successful blog.
A Little About Me:
I have already written a lot about me on the ”about” page. For new readers, I’m Harsh Agrawal, Founder of ShoutMeLoud. By education I’m a software engineer and by profession I’m a blogger. This story will tell you about important time period of my blogging journey. Getting back to my education background, I completed my engineering in I.T. stream (2008) and by the end of my final year; I was placed in one of the most reputed IT Companies: Accenture.

My Blogging Journey : From Start
Alright, I have been updating this post whenever I get time. Last time it was edited in March of 2013.
First three months of blogging:
I started blogging just out of fun in September of 2008 and started writing about things which I knew. I started my blogging journey on the BlogSpot platform. I was more interested in network and computer security, so I started with a community on orkut call “Underground world”. The first domain name which I wanted was underground world, which was already taken. So I started with the domain name virgintech.blogspot, and at the end of three months I was getting appreciation from my readers and I thought of investing on my blog. I bought Web-hosting and a domain from DreamHost and migrated my blog to WordPress.
Selecting a domain name + Hosting
By the end of three months, I was aware of the importance of branding of a blog. Initially I was thinking of some domain name with a keyword containing ‘Tech” but choose “Shout-Me-Loud” for it’s uniqueness and for better branding. For hosting I selected Dreamhost since it was cheap and offered one free domain name along with the unlimited webhosting.
How my niche changed?
Initially I wrote about the usual tech stuff which you could probably find on other blogs. Later on, I started writing about blogging & WordPress based on my personal experience. Since all content was based on my own learning experience and experiments, soon people started liking it and that’s how ShoutMeLoud found its niche.
My First Income:
As I mentioned, I started blogging out of interest; I never had any advertisements. On another note, I had no idea what AdSense was or what SEO was. I was a hobby blogger and with time I learned about AdSense and other advertising programs. Though before that I learned SEO by reading lots of blogs and experimenting every day. I still remember my first $10, which I earned via helping some guy at Digital point forum with his WordPress error. That was my first online income; later on I added AdSense and in the first month I made $40 which I consider as a good start.
Hobby blogger to Professional blogging:
Back in March of 2009, I left my full time job of 6 months and I took up professional blogging as my full-time career. It was not an easy decision and convincing my family was not an easy task, but I took my chance and selected what I liked. By that time I started making decent money which could take care of my daily needs. On another note, I have done my blogging business plan and I knew how I’m going to take ShoutMeLoud to the next stage.
My accident changed my life:
On June 29th 2009 ( a week after my birthday) I met with an accident, and my leg was badly hurt. The Doctor put me on bed rest for 6 months and that’s when my life changed. Since I had nothing else to do, I dedicated myself completely to blogging. I used to spend almost 14 hours a day in front of my laptop, most of the time writing and learning new things. Those 5 months changed everything in my life and given me a new direction. I read as much as I could, and I studied about many top blogs and how they succeeded.
Partnership with another Blogger:
Around January of 2011, I partnered with a Pune-based blogger to take blogging to next level in India. Since we both have the same vision, we thought of doing this together. Later things didn’t come up as expected, and I shifted back to Delhi to start my own venture.
One thing which I learned from this experience is, one should try to avoid partnership until last. If you are undergoing a partnership, you should do the paperwork first and have a complete exit clauses.
My Venture:
My dream and vision till now is making blogging a full time business and set it as an industry in India. Like Rome was not built in a day, it will eventually take some time, but someday I will touch that dream, where I will have a big office and many bloggers will be writing on their blogs sitting in their office.
I started to taking advantage of my current domain name and named my company as ShoutDreams.
Current Blog Network:
Many people have asked me how do I manage so many blogs on our network. It’s not an easy task to maintain multiple blogs and their social media presence. You need to have a team who can treat all blogs as their own blog. Whenever I hire someone (Editor, paid author), one thing that I always make clear to them is always blog for passion and not money.
I divide work amongst all of them, and moreover we work in a model where everyone’s suggestions are welcome. Though I work on maximum of 2-3 blogs promotion at a time. This includes writing guest posts, commenting, social media presence , and so on. At this moment, I’m concentrating on ShoutMeLoud and CallingAllGeeks.
At this moment we have following blogs and portals in our network:
ShoutMeLoud, CallingAllGeeks, WphostingDiscount, Chromoz, ShoutMeTech, WpFreeSetup & ShoutMydomain. Though only first 4 are very active at this moment and from 2013, I will be focusing on other blogs and portals too.
Future Hurdles:
When anyone sets up a company, the biggest problem you face is finding the right team. Your foundation determines the future of your company and whole plan. Right now, I’m in the process of setting up plan for our business, and by April 2013, planning to go live with our office for bloggers.
Earning from Blogging:
This is the most interesting part of my blogging life. If I would have gone ahead with my 9-6 job, I would be making $10-15k per year. With blogging and other online activities, I have managed to make more than $50K a year, which is thrice the amount from my job. Moreover by the end I’m my own boss and I work within my own comfort. I’m sharing this part with you, because I want you to take blogging seriously, and you might end up making money like you’ve never thought possible.
What’s Next for ShoutMeLoud?
We will keep evolving as a blog to teach blogging, SEO and how you can make a living from home. I also started offering personal blog consultancy program, which is the latest addition to my services. I will keep you updated with what’s going to come here next. You can join us on Facebook & Google+.
This post was written because many people wanted to know a little background about me, and about ShoutMeLoud. I will be writing more posts on how we work as a team, and what are the options you have to grow along with ShoutMeLoud. Meanwhile, let me know if you have any feedback for me or for ShoutMeLoud?

ShoutMeLoud is must read blog for new bloggers. I have spend some months in blogging now and have learn a lot. And everyday I go through blogs I get to learn something new.
Blogging as a carrier is still a doubtful question becaus blogging is not a success for everyone. You’ve worked extremely hard and you are paid for your hard work now. I guess that accident was a turning point of your life where you really took blogging very seriously.
God bless your you and your blog.
Wish you luck for your company and be it a great success
Hi , This is very inspiring for every blogger who are trying for there best in the blogging career like you … , and thank you sharing your journey with all …
Lately, I read an interesting article on Famousbloggers in which I remember the title is Each blogger has a story…
Behind your blogging journey and its story in this post, I find many lessons. The first income is not big as expected but we all have to wait for so long. And the second, almost high profiles do not start blogging career with instant success.
A New Year is knocking our door, I hope you will be fine on the way you have been passionate and consistent pursuit so far.
Lastly, I have 2 questions for you Harsh Agrawal. Have you had to deal with any difficult problem related to language, I mean you are not an English speaker. And the second, though it is not a kind of actual question. Will you have some advice for other beginning bloggers and I?
At last u did….. Thanks a lot for sharing.. And yes it was not at all long ..
Inspiration overloaded. Thanks for sharing your experience, maven
As I myself am a computer Engineer I know it take real nerves to say bye bye to a company like Accenture. Its rightly said ..
“You have to risk it to have a biscuit”
first of all, it was not boaring!
Thanks for telling more about you. This article is quite inspiring & motivating!!
All the best for future.. & Happy New year!!… May u get everything this year
You’ve had spent really a great time in past 2 years. I wish you will keep going as you going! Happy New Year Harsh.
Awesome post Harsh. Glad to know ShoutMeLoud. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Harsh,
Happy New Year
All the best for your new venture. I started blogging from Aug 2010 and I am also excited by the response I am getting from Alexa, increase in unique visitor’s count and earnings. I too have a dream of starting my own venture but I know it will take few more months (or years
).
Thanks for writing these type of inspirational articles. We can not imagine how much confidence these articles give to bloggers like me.
By the way thanks for the great article and I can proudly say that you are my inspirational guru.
Cheers!
That was a great read Harsh i was a great fan of you. You inspired me in many ways it was good to know about you and shoutmeloud n a bit depth. Wishing you and Shout me loud a big Success
Wonderful journey as a blogger, Harsh. Turning into a full-time blogger is not an easy task along with convincing our parents. You did everything right and you have grown like a gem. Thanks for sharing your experience with us man.
I second it that your post it not boring at all. I usually find true life articles more interesting and informative. One sees too many recycled information on the net that one from a personal experience is a joy to read no matter how long.
I love the fact that you turned a bad situation to your benefit (I mean your accident). And I think that your dream is not beyond reach. You know what you are doing and are focused which is all you need.
I must commend you for the kind of success you have achieved in just 2 years online. Some people have spent more years online but still haven’t figure much out talk more make a dime.
I did a guest post here recently and now that I know you better I am most glad I did. I like being associated with people who know what they want and go straight for it.
Congrats Harsh !!:) All the very best for the future !!:) Hope u open up many more sites in the near future

I am also having 8 websites , but all of them are just for making money as i didi’nt did it by passion and only for money.
My new year resolution would be to dedicate my free time in Passion Blogging and would like to crack up in top 10,000 sites of the world.

The story on this post is not new to me as I have been following you for a year now and already know everything about your blogging journey from the starting…..

All I want to say is ‘HAppy New Year and Best of luck for future’
Of course I’ll follow you always
Good to know about you and how you started your blog journey. I wish you a very happy new year and wish you that your dream will come true one day. I am completely agree that you should either avoid partnership or made a proper agreement about your roles and share as I have gone through such bad situation.
You can think of Shout Technologies, Techno Shout for your company name.
Great Going Harsh
All the best
truly felt awesome after reading
congrats !
Congras.. Harsh and all the best for future!!!
That was an Inspiring one.
You should also write a post about Company registration.
Good Luck and hope you find a good name for your company.
i too wish to meet an acident so that i can concentrate more on blogging… lol.. Always wish you to be on top…
Wow! our journey seems to be exact same except the partnership you mentioned, and thank god I am strongly against such partnership unless a proper homework done, as i have bad experience earlier in other areas of life.
I too managing many blogs without any help and that too managing my full time job
But now finding it too difficult to manage. So I’m in process of hiring some freelancers. The other task in my hand is registering my company name and most probably will register it in a month in Pune.
Well, best wishes for your journey and hope in near future we will meet somewhere with same blogging passion!
No word about shoutdomains.com? Happy New Year Harsh!!
Harsh, It is great to know about the journey.
Yep you are right. The accident changed your life as you had no other choice than to be at home and that helped.
Hats of to you!
Congrats and All the for future (New company and exising blogs)
A nice inspirational read my friend…
I like the way you made the utmost use of even your bad time… when you had your accident…
As I may have mentioned in my earlier comments, I have been following SML since June 2009 and what impressed me that time was the frequency and the quality of posts. Now I understand, these 14 hpd is the reason.
Some bad things happened for good.
Thanks for this post mate… I never deny from saying that you have been an inspiration and a motivation for me to start my own tech blog… when I was banned to post on SML
… I did not know the term called duplicate content.. but then… decided some thing… June 2010.. Technolism was born… but I really whole heartedly thank you for that…
Keep posting such nice posts.. Best of Luck for your New company… Waiting for the post saying… “We are finally registered”
Cheers,
Aman
Hi Harsh, I believe everything happens for a good reason.
Regards.
Like your accident I also have been through similar situation two
times and both the time I learned new significant things. These
posts of yours brings us more close to you. I already have read
almost all that you have mentioned in this post in your various
online interviews. Following you since more than a year now. I
appreciate your work and also you as a person. All the best Harsh
for your future endeavours.
Nice to know about your blogging career, my son too completed his cs in 2008 and joined Accenture, similar to you he is also passionate about blogging. His blog is nofullstop.com
Interesting and motivational story. All the best.
Happy New Year
Building a team is really a hard task, i am struggling with this since last couple of months – Since I am still in a 12 hours day job (thats too full six days in a week) – Sometime I find it very hard to do all these stuff in remaining 4 hours of my day. But I know I have to do something about it very. I kept few people on paid basis, but it seems they are more busier then me…. Lets see what happens. Good thing is my affiliate marketing is doing superbly fantastic job for me from last couple of years and I am concentrating more on it.
Congratulations on your successes so far, and all the very best for the future – your story is very inspirational, and I’m glad you shared it.
All credits to you Harsh….i learned lots from you…My best wishes to your future
Get your Company Registered fast enough. I know this sounds weird, but I would suggest take ShoutMeLoud itself as the company name.
I wish you all the good luck or the future harsh
Truly inspirational dude. Keep going and best wishes!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Its a great inspiration to us. Happy New Year
Awesome journey brother. Its hard to listen you got accident.

All the best for future.
Best of luck for the future harsh…i wish you all the best for the future and keep rocking bro
Hi Mr. Harsh, a very nice article through which we all
. I wish you all the very
. Really I too think that
gotta know about you and your life
best for your blogging life ahead
bloggers should blog for fun, passion but not for money(in he
starting). Well a same thing happened with me too in terms of
partnership. My blogging career started in July’09 with partnership
with one of my bro. Eventually it was a good start . He taught me
almost evrything about blogging which helped me a lot in gaining
knowledge on how to write and publicize your content. In the first
six months only I was given the Editor post in the blog. Things
came up more good. And I was happy with people accepting my work
and appreciating me. But since last 8 months things went bad to
worst. My partner insured me that he would too pay me up for my
work but he eventually did never. And at last i left the post and
soon the blog also closed down. Well I think a pretty same case
happened with you too(as you said about that pune based blogger) .
So would like to know that what you actually did? and what should I
do for taking up my share? I have had enormous talk with him on
calls and chat. But nothing helped me up. He says just one thing ”
Yeah Sure I would pay you up soon! ” Well I too blogged for passion
but when a person is offered money why won’t he take his share? It
would be great if you could help me in this topic.. Thnx The
website was/is http://www.techno-planet.net Owner Ashish Mundhra with his
new blog(TechPanache).
Hey Bharat
Mine case if entirely different..My partnership was beyond blogging..!!
Anyways in your scenario you should better have some kind of security like domain access should be under your name and so is hosting…
Get a deadline for the payment..If your partner is unable to make a payment in given deadline..
Ask your partner to sell the blog and pay you..Coz by the end it’s your hard work…
Imitation is the first step of learning. Good that you shared your experience. Nothing like learning from others experinces. All the best.
Well your journey is truly inspirational…I think every blogger including me looks upto you as an inspiration..To be very frank, I believe that blogging can be a profession just because of you ..
I wish you all the more success in the coming years…
Thanks Kartik and it’s one of my dream to bring blogging as full-time career in this country….
congos .. & best of luck
that’s quite an interesting journey
Harsh your Story is great and inspiring.Wish u all the best in future endeavour.
the most transparent blogger i seen ever!
Hi Harsh,
It’s a great inspirational journey for bloggers.
Congrats for your achievement & best wishes for your future endeavors.
very inspirational story. Now you are a very ideal face of indian youth who want to be more self dependent…
It is better to work for yourself and your passion compared to working in a company like a dog
Great story! I mean real life story. It brought me here. This is all techie stuff? I am not sure if I can write anything relevant. Nonetheless. Great going!! Make greater progress this year
Way to go Harsh. I am expecting a cool feature on you in
the most prominent channels by this year end. Get ready for an
interview and be prepared with a questionnaire
Suneel looking forward to it…
If that happens it would be great.as many bloggers will be inspired and many others will join the blogging world
you can check Amit Agarwal’s interview conducted by CNN IBN(http://www.labnol.org/about/). I was inspired by Amit .he is a great blogger
sirr ji “T” is missing in first line …..
I wish you good luck to your blogging journey. I will say blogging continues to be very beneficial to connect your readers and if you can utilize it with affiliate marketing, that will be way better!
Leavin a well placed job to start something on your own is not only risky, its VERY challenging. It feels great to see you’ve excelled in it. All the very best for all your future projects. May you continue to exhibit this amazing energy through all your years ahead…
I wish I had taken blogging seriously.. Sometimes I wish I could just leave everything and sit on an island with my laptop and internet connection and spend my life there.. I mean there is no such thing like internet and sharing your views on internet. Helping people around..
Best of Luck with your venture Harsh.. You are an inspiration to me.
Thanks
Kuldeep

Hi Harsh,

Thanks for the Share
-Imran
Your journey from a day job engineer to a full time successful blogger is awe inspiring. The fact that you encourage talent and recommend blogging to others noteworthy and respectable though I think it has its side effects.
Over last couple of years, the number of new bloggers getting into the same niche (blog about blogging, tech related) is growing exponentially. I think the main reason is that a fairly large number of successful blogs (that make a good amount of money) release ebooks, and tips and tricks to make money and basically everyone is running after the dough rather than blogging for the pleasure of it.
What do you think is the main cause and what’s the way forward?
Amazing post…truly inspirational….you are really great…
Nice to know the history of shoutmeloud. I had seen you working hard one legged
Keep it going.
Hi , This is very inspiring for me and every blogger who are trying for there best in the blogging career like you … , but i want to tell you one more thing i follow you since very long time but i think this is my first comment in your blog because you really inspire me .And i am doing my BCA but my all teachers said you have to go with MBA because they think my mind is good for Business,Because if i anything i saw then suddenly an IDEA strikes in my mind for that thing to promote that but i have shortage of money..o k but please visit my blog and give me suggestion.
The gem cannot be polished without friction, no man perfected without trials. Finally you achieve it.
Fabulous to know this….
And at d end of the day winner is winner!!
U rock…!!
I am totally inspired from this. I have been reading this article from the past one hour! I know it doesn’t take that much time, but your Blogging carrer is a thought provoking one which induces many thoughts and plans into my mind. I would like to interview you shortly! Your answers and your tactics will surely inspire the readers of BlogoTech Blog. Thanks Harsh! Good luck in future,
Sincere wishes from Lalit
I like your idea about a Blogging Company
. It seems very good! Your story gives me more motivation to keep up my blogging career. Thank you!
Good info Harsh……it’s a prove of your hard work….
great amazing sir,
i m also want to make a blogger like you.
plz tell me the way to be become a blogger.
Oh i am really in love with sml really you guys are rocking.
bro u knw wat.. this was an enlightening about me frm ur side..
BTW i think the same way as u do.. bt the only difference is that u are a bit older than me which enables you to take ur decisions urself and this thing provides u tons of things which a child like me cant get at this age…
Bt i think one day we bth will stand together and will give head to head competition to IBM,Apple and Microsoft..
As far as the name of the company is concerned i think u shld work even more laboriously coz one day that name will not be a name.. it will be a brandname !
So think twice before concluding anything..
Wish you luck..
Arjun Singh
Thanks Arjun for your comment and good to know that you share the same dream like me.

Inspirational journey and very useful post! So, your first income was $10, that’s good to know. Sad to know that you met with an accident. But, you didn’t stop there, it was your dedication which lifted you up and made you more stronger. Indeed, business plan is important to take the business/blogging to the next level and you have implemented it greatly. You are doing great work and Best of luck for your future. Thanks Harsh for sharing your blogging journey with us
Harsh, you are an inspiration to bloggers everywhere. I am struggling to make money through the Internet, and although I earned some money every now and then, it’s not enough for my needs and my dreams in life. I was tempted to become an IM guru, to build a list and promote crappy offers to that list. But I have decided to do what I really love, and that is to build websites and blogs.
I look to you as one of my inspirations and one of the people that I would like to emulate.
Thank you so much Harsh for sharing some of the most important aspects in blogging. Your journey as a professional blogger, teacher and straight-forward gave us more inspiration to pursue our online journey.
Keep up the good work Harsh, you have a huge following here in the Philippines.
Hi Harsh,
Well, I haven’t completed my studies yet but I still take blogging seriously (even more than my study) and for my good, I have already convince my parents to let me blog and one more thing, you said the story was big but I felt it too short, you can make it big like John Chow and can add it to your e – book.
Thanks for the post, buddy. A lot of inspiration for everyday.
Regards,
Anurag.
First of all I want to say thanks to Harsh, which is actually responsible for my success in online business. He is my inspiration along with thousands of professional established bloggers in India and worldwide.
Actually he is a blogging idol for India. There are many other successful bloggers in India but not everyone share his secrets of success like this great man. That is why Harsh is loved and followed by bloggers.
I had worked for his blog network and he supported me when my family is against my blogging career. I learned a lot and he taught me like brother.
Now I am not only an established blogger but also run some other serious online projects and I give at least 70% credit to Harsh Agrawal.
God bless him.
Hi Harsh! How are you? Your story is very inspiring!
It is true that in one way or another everything will come good for us huh?. Well Harsh I was also Blogger Blogging and I moved my blog to wordpress but I kept my blospot domain name and blog and I did’t thought of any 301 redirects! Shortly I saw my blogspot blog rising its rankings. But even through my other blog has unique articles mine is not rankin in Google! I asked a blogger and he said that Google might have blaklisted my site since I did’t put 301 redirect oon my other blog. So could you mind to give a little tio to et out from this blaklist? Thanks
@Abhiodh
You have unintentionally created duplicate content issue.
If it’s been long with the migration, you should consider getting rid of BlogSpot blog otherwise try setting up 301 redirection.
