  • Suggested for every blogger and web developer to get free cloud hosting.

Three months back I got to know about Cloudways, which is a managed platform to host your Website on cloud servers of Digital Ocean and Amazon cloud service. The first time when you bump into a new hosting, the big question is how should I trust this hosting. Usually, we Google about the hosting in search engine try to read reviews and most of the time results are good and bad reviews.

Isn’t it simpler to try the hosting before you buy it? That’s how I got hooked to Cloudways and after giving it a test-ride finally I have become a paid customer to their hosting.

In my story, I first signed up for a free hosting account with them which let me host my site on Digital ocean server for one month, and moreover, I got to know about the hosting quality itself. Not to forget this detailed guide by Rajiv where he shared WordPress installation guide on cloud servers and if you are a non-developer like me, you would think it’s some rocket science.

To cut the long story short, hosting your website on Cloud server have various advantages and this I will cover in the next post of this series. I tried setuping the Digital ocean two time, Don’t know. How to do that, I know Digital Ocean is Super fast, I Tried Installing Kloxo everytime but getting problem in Solving DNS Issue.

Is there any guide to Solve that and setup it properly?

    1. @Prampreet
In this case you should try Cloudways, as it will make the setup process easy with their GUI interface.

This service doesn’t appear to have servers in India….

I have seen many advertisements about Host Gator’s $0.01(one penny) hosting advertisements. Do you have any idea whether they are good?

    1. @Rohit
Digital ocean and Hostgator are world apart in terms of server quality and support. You can host on Singapore here as that is nearest server from India.

  3. Are you also using digital ocean now ? They are damm good , btw i never heard about cloudways , i just checked now but their pricing plans do not mention their fees , like for 512 MB ram on DO we have to pay 5USD a month , but how much they charge ??

  4. We moved from WPEngine to Cloudways and have been very happy with the performance. At first, we tested Cloudways by taking advantage of their free trial offer, mentioned here, and went with Digital Ocean. We were very pleased with WPEngine, however, we were quickly outgrowing the Professional plan and would have to upgrade to their business plan at $249.00 per-month.

WPEngine offers unlimited data transfer, but places limits on visitors. Our plan was limited to 100,000 monthly visits. WPEngine includes bots as visitors, and bots represented about 30 per-cent of our visitors.

We just upgraded our Coudways trail to a paid version with double to server resources and performance is incredible. We’re seeing vast performance improvements over WPEngine at 1/3 the cost.

We still have lots of room in out budget to increase our server size on Cloudways as it’s required, and still remain well under the costs we would incur at WPEngine.

I’d like to be clear about WPEngine – they have a great worry-free dedicated WordPress hosting service. But they need to improve their hosting plans now that the competition is offering equal or superior performance at a fraction of the cost.

Hi! I signed up for Cloudways trial 1 month,

I have added a domain name to it.

I want to know how to redirect root domain to subdomain (example.com to http://www.example.com) on Cloudways I have tried everything but not working and when I open my site like http://www.example.com it got stuck at white screen how do may I solve this problem? Help me I want to redirect it to www .

    Thanks!

    1. Virendar to achieve this , you have to perform following steps : First create [A] nameservers on your domain registrar with both www and non www and point them to your server ip, which can be found under app management in cloudways panel. After this add your domain to cloudways apps , if you done it then skip this step.
Now login to wordprwess and goto Settings > General
and here chenge WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) to http://www.example.com and now login again , thats it 😀

  6. Tried Cloudways yesterday , they are good , however what i noticed is there are multiple limitations attached to it. They deny to give root access which is required for many operations if you want to play with your server. And you really cannot have private nameservers(if you want). Moreover they don’t allow Cpanel , VestaCP and any panel. You are forced to use their management panel. Now when it comes to mail servers they provide no support and when i asked and confirmed with them , i was shocked , they asked me to pay 2 USD a month for it as they provide rackspace email hosting. Only way to send mail free is using their gmail addon. and you can’t have free mail hosting on their server. I think these are very basic functionality which a startup blogger would also require and are also available on shared hosts. I signed up with them yesterday and now bogged down with their limitations.

  7. “We will pay you double if you are not happy.”
CloudWays seems to be very confident on their services. Nice!

  8. Hi harsh,
I have heard about the cloud hosting features and also read about the top cloud hosting sites. In cloud hosting the most beneficial point is that you can expand the server for some time in case of traffic burst on your site. The free cloud hosting site you have provided, I am eager to try this,

  9. Interesting. Have you tried Openshift. They have a free three small gear plan. It’s not too much, but for those who look for free hosting accounts, I think it’s better to get a taste of cloud with it before diving deeper inside.

  10. I need a good WordPress hosting with lower price to host my clients sites. I think both digital ocean and amazon are costlier if it comes to multiple wordpress hosting.

  11. Hi Harsh,

Thanks for your inputs. I do have following questions in my mind:
No1# Say, my traffic will be from India…so if I host my site with Hostgator India , will it be advantageous for me for the fact that the site will be fast in India ? I could experience their softaculous auto installer provided with HG India takes less than a minute to install ecommerce OS softwares like prestashop.
No#2:- I am a non-techy person but tried DigitalOcean to spin up a server and install PrestaShop. To be frank…I simply failed as so many steps to be followed…which is not simple for starters like me. I wish digital ocean could have auto installers within their panel!

Now..kindly guide me…where to continue… with Hostagtor india or Digitalocean singapore. ( I tried business plan of HG india for two months @695/-pm+tax and could get complementary dedicated IP+ SSL but still confused whether to continue wid HG or wid DO).
Please put your valued comments and guide us .

  12. Arkaprava Majumder

I have ~1,20,000 visitors monthly on my site. Can you please suggest, which plan (digital ocean) should be suitable for me.

  13. I used cloudways, I don’t think it secure server tech team can use my account without user name and password.

I want to ask Harish is it right to use any account without taking permission

    1. @Amit
This is most common practice among managed hosting providers. They do it to reduce the time on support.

  14. Would using their Vultr platform be good also? I noticed that for an identical price, Cloudways offers 1GB of RAM and more storage with Vultr when compared to Digital Ocean’s 512RAM . I am not a big wordpress user, nor a techie, but I feel having more memory wouldn’t hurt.

  15. Siddharth Rawat

Thanks for your recommendation sir. I’m now using cloudways and it’s working good. I was using Hostgator before and I can feel the difference in the speed.
