A few weeks back Tina shared a detailed guide on SEO benefits of Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). Needless to say, it’s important for us to have AMP enabled for our blog as with time it’s getting more traction & gives a better user experience.
Currently, AMP is not a mobile ranking factor, but it would be wrong to consider this as the only deciding factor for enabling AMP. We have already covered the major benefits of AMP earlier in this post.
On 13th October 2016 Google officially announced the addition of new AMP testing tool in search console.
How to use Google’s AMP testing tool?
To use the tool, you can head over to testing tool here & add any of the pages from your blog to analyze the AMP page with the real Googlebot. The tool tests the validity of the AMP markup as well as any structured data on the page. You can use this tool on your smartphone browser as well.
This tool will make it easier for us to find the common AMP error on our web page & also help in seeing the code that is causing the AMP Errors. Do notice the share button at bottom right. You can use this to share a link to the result page with your team or developer.
For valid AMP pages, this tool will also provide a link to live preview of how a page may appear in Google’s search results. Here is an example of such preview:
WordPress users can use an official plugin “AMP” to enable Accelerated mobile pages for their WordPress based website or blogs. If you are using Yoast SEO plugin, then you should also use Glue for Yoast + AMP plugin.
Two brothers from Hyderabad are also actively developing & maintaining AMP Toolbox plugin; that helps you to monetize your AMP version of the site. Here is a video that helps you to enable AMP for your WordPress blog.
Well, I’m yet to find & fix all the AMP related errors for my blog. I would like to hear if you were able to enable AMP for your blog? How’s your experience so far & is it helping you to drive more traffic?
Do share this post on Facebook & Twitter to let your friends know about this new & official AMP testing tool.
