How to Automate WordPress Database Backup

When ever I talk about WordPress security, I always mentioned how important it is to take timely backup of your blog. There are many tools like ManageWP, Vaultpress, which let you take complete backup of your WordPress blog, but in this case we are only looking at taking WordPress database backup. There are many plugins like Wp Db-backup, Wp Db-manager, which will quickly let you take backup of WordPress blog database. Out of all, I find Wp Db backup to be easiest plugin, as it doesn’t require any configuration, and once you schedule your backup timing, it will keep taking backup after constant time-period.

In this guide, we will learn how to use Wp db-backup WordPress plugin, and start taking backup of your blog. Do remember, a backup is incomplete without your Wp-content folder backup, and if you are using a secure hosting like Hostgator, Bluehost, you are good with regular backup of database and wp-content. Database backup is more important, as in many cases database file get corrupts, and only way to restore it is via a backup file.

How to use WP Db-backup to Schedule WordPress database backup?

The first thing which you need to do is, install Wp-db backup plugin on your blog. (Learn how to install WordPress plugin). Once you have installed and activated the plugin, you need to click on Tools > Backup and configure the settings. Here you can take the instant database backup, or schedule your backup.

So, lets learn how you can schedule WordPress blog database backup:

Simply scroll down on the page, and under schedule backup, configure the settings. You can select how often you want to take database backup, and you will get a list of tables created by other plugins, which you can include or exclude from backup. I would recommend to select all tables, as it will make sure that you don’t face issue when restoring from database backup.

Once you have configured the schedule backup option, click on save, and this plugin will automatic taking backup of your Blog. This is not only important, but an essential task for any WordPress blogger. This is one plugin, which I use on several WordPress projects, and find it very handy. I also used Wp db manager plugin, but that plugin requires few settings, and doesn’t work in all hosting environment.     I am always looking for backup plugins like these.
    But the best way to do a backup is to use the cpanel feature.
    It’s amazing and works great.
