Most of you know that it is a video sharing website owned by Google where users upload, view, and share videos, but what you don’t know about YouTube is what this article is all about.

Here are 21 of my favorite YouTube facts which will blow your mind.

2. Birth Of YouTube

The idea came to its founders at a dinner party at Steve Chen’s place in San Francisco when, due to some email attachment error, they were unable to share the videos of the party.

5. Domain Name Misunderstanding

The domain name youtube.com was registered on Valentine’s Day in 2005, and the name was all goofed up as “Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment” the domain of which was utube.com.

6. Grabbed By The Big Fish

Being a smart player in the market, it was Google that understood the potential of this video sharing website and offered a mammoth $1.65 billion buyout in the very next year of YouTube’s inception. They sealed the deal in November 2006.

YouTube started April Fool’s Day pranks in 2008. The custom is followed till date.

In the 2008 prank, all the links to the videos on the main page were redirected to Rick Astley’s music video “Never Gonna Give You Up”. It was also known as the “Rickrolling” prank.

Prank of 2009 was another classic. YouTube turned the page upside down when users clicked a video and called it a new page layout.

Once, they tied up with a newspaper satire company “The Onion” and claimed that the video sharing website was launched as a contest and that it would no longer exist.

They said winners would be announced later. Would you believe that two channels fell for it and streamed it live for 12 hours?

Well, funny, but true.
