Accept Debit/Credit Card Payments Easily In India With Instapay

Have you found the process of accepting payment painful? As an entrepreneur without an E-commerce company or a blogger selling eBooks, workshops, online course,s or anything else, how challenging is the process of taking the payment?

Of course, there are payment gateways that you can use, but let’s be real: It’s a cumbersome process. For a long my process of accepting a direct payment online is by sharing my bank details & the buyer usually transfers it via net banking or direct deposit at the bank. Let’s not ignore that sharing bank detail is not a smart move, as it exposes you to many security risks.

This is one reason I always recommend you to use PayPal for online purchases, as it lowers the risk of fraud with your credit card. Well, we all know now PayPal is not a viable option for transferring money within India, and this is where this online solution name InstaPay comes into the picture.

Is InstaPay a PayPal Alternative for Indians?

It would be unwise to call InstaPay a PayPal alternative, as it simplifies the process of accepting payment without you sharing your bank details. It doesn’t offer a wallet kind of service ( Not until now), which can be used to send or receive money.

So, what makes InstaPay such a right solution for millions of Solopreneurs & bloggers?

Let me explain this by the functionality of how InstaPay works. Before that, I suggest you to read about Instamojo here, where I explained how I’m using it to sell my game-changer Affiliate marketing eBook.

Why should you read?

It’s because InstaPay is a free service offered by Instamojo & you need to have an Instamojo account to use it. If you haven’t created an account yet, you can do so by following the link below.

Nonetheless, in my earlier guide I have shared all the steps with pictures to get started on Instamojo. The important thing you need to take care of is the username at the signup. Don’t use a username like “Funkydude” or “babydoll”, as you will regret it later.  Let me explain why..

The username you will be using for signup will be your InstaPay URL. To give you a better view, click on this link @denharsh at Instapay. See the beautiful page that you can use to send me any amount of your choice to me:

And this is what happens when you add any amount & click on Pay:

Do you also see the big picture here? How convenient InstaPay made the online payment for Indians & most important it safeguard you from exposing your bank details. What interesting here is, InstaPay URL works pretty decent even on mobile, and they have taken the mobile-first approach. In fact, you can create an Instamojo account from your mobile phone in the next 5 minutes.

I use InstaPay for accepting payments for a few things like my Seminar, Workshop or at times when somebody is paying my debt. They charge 1.9% for every successful transaction that is one of the lowest in the industry. Moreover, you would love their customer support who is willing to walk an extra mile to give a comforting service.

What more for InstaPay?

Instamojo is doing a great job with their targeted product offering & I’m a big fan of the simplicity yet great features they offer.

I would like to see them growing from domestic to the international market for accepting payments. Especially after PayPal limitations in India, we all need one alternative that could give us 360* solution.

Another feature that could be a game changer for Instamojo & InstaPay is payment via Wallet service. If we can store payment in the Waller ( let’s call it Instamojo wallet, and make payment using it). Well, this is little far-fetched for now as this startup is already doing a great contribution to Indian Entrepreneurs & Solopreneurs community. But it doesn’t hurt to expect more from a progressive company. Is int it?

If you are from India, I highly recommend you to create an account right away as it’s free & claim your InstaPay username. At the right time, InstaPay will help you to save a lot of headaches.

Do let me know how you are planning to InstaPay for your business.

Are you going to collect your freelancing fees using it, or will you integrate it into your existing business model creatively? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below. Do let your Indian friends know about InstaPay & they might tell you big thanks.

    Hi Harsh,
    I know they come highly recommended by you & I went forward with it for my online shop. Their customer servicing staff is very, very unprofessional & so is their Business Dev Manager / Director. I have written to Sampad as well who is the CEO , Co-founder but looks like it has fallen on deaf ears. I’m quite surprised that people who have built their company pay no head to complaints that can be heard out & mutually benefit them & merchants
    There is only so much you can do to try to get them to hear you out about their team & services. Else walk away & then look upon you for another alternative for receiving payments
    There is a lot of trust I place in you & your blogs. Therefore, letting you know about the experience

    Best regards,
    Sam

    I checked Instapay by Instamojo after reading your article with intention to use it instead of PayPal to accept money from my US Based clients. But I was disappointed to see that we can not accept USD or other foreign currency with it.. Or is there a workaround that I missed? Unless they start accepting atleast USD, they really are no replacement for PayPal.

    What if I want to change my bank account details and PAN details also … Can I change my these details like if I want to enter details of person A then after sometime can I add details of person B ..?

    Thank You

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @Yugansh
      In that case it’s better to create two account at Instamojo.

      1. Yugansh Chokra

        Sir, I don’t want to make two account, I am the founder of Techzealand, and this time I don’t have my PAN card but I need to receive some payments online and also I can use my sisters PAN card this time but later on can I change this. Because as Instapay is providing username so I can register @techzealand only for once. That’s why I can’t make two accounts

    I am building a education site which offers mock exams . For that I want to sell memberships. For that I am planning to use ultimate membership pro plugin. The limitation is it doesn’t offer payment gateway suitable for Indian subscribers. I want to use instamojo. One thing I want to know, is it possible for us to know in real time who had paid . ? Can I expect their technical team to help me in integrating the payment gateway for automatic updation of memberships with payment..

    Hi Harsh,
    I am following your blog for quite a long time and also read 100+ of your blog posts and you have mentioned in your earlier post that you are using PayPal. Now, can you please tell me are you also using Instapay or stilly using PayPal?

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @Vikas
      I’m using both at the same time. PayPal have one big limitation & that is I can’t send or receive money from another Indian user using PayPal. Instapay helps me to solve this major problem.
      I would suggest you to use both & never stick to any single program. The more options you have, it will help you getting things done swiftly in different case-scenario.

  16. Mahesh

    If you are to sell a product which you think is good for both international and indian users, then which option is better? Instapay or Ejunkie or Paypal?

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @Mahesh
      Good questions!

      Here is what I have learned by experimenting with various products. This is from an Indian publisher perspective as many of these network have limitations for India due to RBI or various other factors.

      E-junkie: You can’t buy subscription as a seller from E-junkie, as their company is based in Delhi & you can’t pay them via PayPal. Sadly, that’s the only option for you to pay them. I actually paid them using a non-Indian PayPal account, but lost the enthusiasm of working with them. They are pretty good otherwise.

      PayPal: If your target audience is in India, you should not use PayPal. Their limitation is pretty bad for Indian publishers & freelancers who are selling in India.

      InstaMojo: I believe you are asking for Instamojo where you can sell eBook. I like them but their limitation is they operate only in India. Which actually affected my sale a lot, & had to look for an alternative for ShoutMeLoud readers outside India.
