Feedburner Feeds not Updating : How to Fix it?

Here at ShoutMeLoud, I use the combination of Aweber + Feedburner for sharing latest posts with my readers. Feedburner will let your readers to subscribe for your blog updates via RSS Feeds or Emails and one of the best free product out there. I’m using feedburner from day one and at times I get this issue when Feedburner stop showing the latest posts in feeds. One tip which I would like to give to anyone is: Always subscribe to your own feeds and blog Email newsletter, so that you can keep an eye on your Blog updates and if something goes wrong with the feeds, you can quickly get hold of it. If you are new to Feedburner, you can read my guide on How to setup feedburner for WordPress blog, or check out this video:

Today, when I was checking ShoutMeLoud feeds, I realized from last 3 days, Feeds is not updating and to fix this issue:

  • First we need to identify the issue
  • Fix the issue
  • and Resync the Feeds

Here I’m out lining some of the possible steps which you can take to fix Feedburner not updating Feeds issue:

How to Fix Issues with Feedburner not showing latest posts:

Very first thing which I will recommend you to do is, login to your Feedburner account and at the bottom of your Feedburner dashboard, you will find link to Feedbulletin, which is a feed for feedburner issues related to your account. Search for “Monitor the health of your feed by subscribing to FeedBulletin” and open the feed link and see if see any warning there.

In my case, there was no warning and everything seems to be fine. If in your case, you don’t find anything there, it’s time to check for feed validity. Now, go to Feedvalidator and enter your Blog address and click on Validate. If there is any error in your feed, you will see the warnings and issues highlighted in Yellow. In my case, Feedvalidator showed it’s valid feed and there is no problem with it.

Optional: Now, Another thing which you can do is to check your original Blog feed for any issues: I opened https://www.shoutmeloud.com/feed in a browser tab, and checked if, original Blog feed is getting updated or not. And everything seems to be fine, so issue might be syncing feeds, Feed cache or could be ping issue. So, it’s time to fix issue from Feedburner level. Default feed address for any WordPress blog is http://domain.com/feed (Replace domain.com with actual domain name).

Ping your Feedburner Feed:

Go back to your Feedburner dashboard and click on feed name which is not updating. In the feed dashboard, you will find a link to Troubleshootize, click on it and here you will find many steps to fix your Feedburner issues. Very first thing which I would recommend is, ping your feedburner feed and check if that solves the issue. Go to Ping feedburner link and add your Website address and ping it. This will autodiscover your Blog feed and ping it and here I got following error:

unable to process Feedburner Feed
  • Save

our Ping resulted in an Error “We were unable to process your ping. You must ping with a URL that exactly matches the channel link (RSS) or alternate link (Atom) in your top level feed element pointing back to your website (e.g http://myblog.blogspot.com/), or use your feed URL (e.g. http://feeds.feedburner.com/myuri).”

At this stage, I tried few things and that includes:

  • Deactivated recently Activate plugins.
  • Cycled Feed from partial feed to Full feed and Recycled Back
  • Clear cache plugin cache

After that, I again used the Ping feedburner link and pinged using my Website address, and it worked. No more error and ping was successful.

Magic Button to Fix and syncing latest post with Feedburner:

So, this will fix the feedburner issue but your feedburner URL might not show new posts until you publish something new or you hit the magic resync button. Under your Feed dashboard, under troubleshootize you will find a button at the bottom, which says: “Resync now”. This magic button will again sync your Blog updates to feedburner feed and all your latest post will start showing.

All the above steps might look technical, but once you start doing it, it will not take even more than 5 minutes to fix it. More over, if you ever encounter issues with your Feedburner feeds and it’s not getting updated, I recommend you to quickly fix the issue else, your readers will not be able to receive the latest updates and you will miss out your regular readers traffic.

You can subscribe to ShoutMeLoud feed by clicking on this link and do let me know if you ever faced problem with Feeds not updating. How you fixed the issue? This post, will help you in trouble and if it did, don’t forget to share it on Facebook and give us Google plus.
