Google plus is one of those social-networking site that every blogger should have their presence on. After the launch of Google plus , Google is putting all the efforts to get user on this social-network. They have integrated Google plus comments on YouTube, launched Google plus comments for BlogSpot and if you are using GMail or any other Google service, and land on any page of Google+ site, it will ask you to create your Google plus account. If you are not on Google plus yet, I highly recommend you to create a profile on G+.
Now, you must be wondering why I’m suggesting you to be on Google+, when this post is about deleting Google plus account. The reason is, I have a personal GMail account and few Google apps account and due to this I ended up creating multiple profiles on Google plus. This also created another big problem for my followers or people who are trying to tag me on Google plus post, as they get confused with which profile they should tag me.
This is one reason, I decided to deleted all other Google plus profile created using my Google apps eMail address and have only one G+ profile, which you can see here. If you are also stuck in a situation like me, I recommend you to drop your extra/unused Google plus profile, and focus on making your official Google plus account better. Also, if you need your blog presence on Google plus, instead of creating profile, work on creating Google plus pages for your blog.
Quickest way to Delete Google plus Account:
Login to your Google plus profile which you want to delete. Click on Home > Settings on the left bar. Under settings page last option is to disable Google plus. Below that you will see “Delete your entire Google profile here.” option and click on it. This is the direct link for quick access. Here you will see what all will happen when you delete your Google plus profile.
In the first view I was sceptical of deleting my profile as I was seeing the downgrade page have listed down about my YouTube Channel, Google plus pages and so on. Though they are just for information and deleting your Google plus profile will not affect anything. If you are the sole admin of any Google plus page, you should add admins to make sure your page is still in your control. In my case I simply added my official Google plus profile as pages admin.
Note: Disabling/deleting your Google plus profile will also delete your YouTube channel. So if you have an active YouTube channel, you might not want to do this.
In my case I had a Youtube channel with this redundant profile, so I had no issue getting rid of it. In your case you might want to double-check if your YouTube channel is an active one. In case if you get into any issue, you can refer to this help page to restore your YouTube channel. This whole step will hardly take 2 minutes but it’s a good move for you if you wish to manage only one profile on Google plus. It also makes more sense to have only one profile as Google plus allows tagging and having more than one profile will make it harder for others to tag your active profile.
Do you also have more than one Google plus profile? Are you getting rid of extra once?
