Blogging Jobs: How To Get Hired And Make Money From Home

Blogging jobs are one of those career opportunities that you can get easily based on your writing skills. Also, you can work from the comfort of your home.

Sounds like a dream for many, but with the evolution of blogging as a career, this job opportunity is getting wider every day. In this post, we will cover some points which will help you to get an awesome “get paid for writing” kind of job.

The very first thing I want to talk about is Blog Writer jobs. Talking about India where the wage per hour is too little, there are hundreds of content writers from small cities who work day and night, but end up making very little money.

But, it is time to change this.

Read this article seriously, and it may change the way you are making money by writing content.

  • Save

One of the major issues which I have seen with content writers is, they don’t get enough exposure, and you will never find their name in an article.

They get paid for doing ghost or pseudo writing for some third party content writing company, and they miss out the opportunity to make handsome money for their hard work.

Get out of the world of content writing and try to jump into the world of paid blogging or paid to blog kind of work.

We will look into some of the aspects of it, and hopefully this might help many content developers who have missed out on a big amount of money earning opportunities.

Apart From Writing, What Are The Other Blogging Jobs?

The blogging job is not only related to writing content; but more than that. That includes analytics, promotion, branding, social media promotion, editors, content developers, influencer outreach, advertisement manager and so on.

Blogging jobs are not just related to content development. A full-fledged blog needs proper planning, SEO manager, and many other roles which I mentioned above and for obvious reasons, it can’t be accomplished by one man.

So, before we move ahead, I want you to sit down and see what you are good at.

SEO? Content strategy? Content development? Or anything related.

If you are a content writer, try to get out of the field of “I can write on any topic”, try to become an expert. For example, an expert on “health” or  “Android phones” or “Apple related”, etc. This way, it will be easier for you to approach and get recognized, which we will see below.

There are many sites out there that offer full time or part time jobs to Bloggers to write for them. Usually, these sites offer blogging jobs to micro niches or sub-topics inside a blog. If not, you can take advantage of freelance writing sites like Freelancer.com to find jobs related to content writing or blogging. Here is a comprehensive list of such websites.

These sites have an extremely stringent selection process to pick Bloggers to write for them, as you will be representing the site once you start working as well as the fact that they are paying you good money to blog for them.

Well, these jobs don’t come easy so let me help you by giving some tips that I know regarding getting hired for a blogging job.

Prepare Your Blog Job Resume/Portfolio:

Forget those old age paper resume. We are talking about working online, so your resume should be online and moreover, it should be showcasing your work and not just another boring and dull resume. Make it interesting with information which a recruiter would be looking for.

Your details, interest, expertise and your best work. As I mentioned, best work, which means, instead of showing 100+ posts written by you, show them 4-5 posts which you feel is 100% clean and shows your work and your level of writing. Mostly, it should be some review, your insights and opinion on any topic, your most engaged post, your most shared posts.

One of the first things people see when they are reviewing your application for a blogging job is your Resume. Things you would need to include here are:

  1. Your own blog, where you write regularly. (If you don’t have one, provide links to your author page on the blog where you write constantly).
  2. Years of experience in blogging, writing columns in magazines or newspapers.
  3. Your niche, the topics you have expertise over.
  4. Any blogging awards you have received, even offline writers awards can be included.
  5. A note on why you want that job (let it be passionate).
  6. If you manage your Facebook and Google+ professionally, showcasing them will give an edge. Every blog owner like free target promotion and getting a writer along with a strong social media profile will certainly help.

Make your resume compact and give a lot of attention to detail, use only one kind of easy to read, clean font. Make sure you present all your details in a systematical way and do not give any room for criticism.

If you have not built a resume or portfolio, start a guest posting campaign. Find blogs which allow guest posting in your niche and submit ten different articles to 10 different blogs. If you have created your resume by now, credit every post to your resume.

For example, This is a guest post by “Andy Behan” who is a freelance writer and you can see his work at “your link.”

Make sure you mention you are up for new jobs and writing work.

Sample writing:

Whenever you apply for a blogging job, they will ask you for your sample writing or previously written articles.

One common mistake, which writers do is they share the blog link and expect the recruiter to find their writing. Boom!

You just lost a possible job!

Here, you cannot just give a link to your blog and expect them to go through everything, you will need to present them with a couple of best-written articles by you, whether on your blog or articles that you have written on other blogs as a Guest Blogger. There are two things they look at with these sample articles:

  1. Obviously, one is your writing style, your vocabulary and your knowledge on the subject as well as your fluency.
  2. Your selection of “Quality Articles”, when they tell you to show them one or two articles as samples, they obviously expect you to give your best quality content. By seeing the content you show them, they will be able to make an assumption about what you feel is “Great Quality”. This can be a deciding factor in selecting you or not. They can easily tell whether you think “quality” in the same terms as they do. This is called compatibility.

Make sure that your content samples are very unique to the job you are applying to. For example, do not submit articles about making money online, when you are applying for a blogging job as an Apple Software specialist.

Stand Out Quality: Influence

If you have a large social network of followers who like your writing, you have a huge advantage. All blogs are always looking for a way to get to new audiences, if you can provide them this, then you can get a blogging job easily.

This is because of the fact that you have to be a really good writer to have such a following.

Then again, if you have such a good following, you would probably be running a huge blog yourself. The best example for this is Amit Agarwal, who is a well-known blogger from Indian and writes as Labnol.org, and he also writes as a technology columnist at The Wall Street Journal (Indian Online Edition) as a paid blogger. So having an influence over a large number of people can give you a lot of attention.

Testimonials:

Recommendations from blogs where you used to guest blog or from blogs where you used to work can go a long way in helping secure a new blogging job. Bigger the recommendation, more are your chances of landing a job.

How much can you earn from blogging jobs?

As I said, these kinds of the job are mostly get paid for writing jobs, and you can work with your ease from your home or a cafe.

The amount depends on what kind of job you are getting. Is it a development job, an SEO job, or is it simple and plain article writing? It can vary from $1-$250, depending upon your quality of writing and your expertise in that niche.

Here is the list of websites where you can find a freelance writing job.

Only apply to a job if you are totally confident in your ability to provide quality content in the niche provided to you. If not, do not bother applying, you will be saving time and embarrassment. Also, make sure you can fully commit to your job and perform and finish the work on time.

A simple search in Google “Blogging Jobs for….” with the niche you specialize in and you will find some great blogging job openings.

Was this helpful?

Thanks for your feedback!

I think the biggest problem for most people is actually finding jobs in the first place. Of course there is also the language barrier for a lot of people now as well

  12. Tushar

Displaying your work is important. If yo are thinking of offering blogging services, make sure you have written few articles and have few credentials to your name to show to your prospective clients

    Hi Gautham,
Good presentation about article writing, writing for blogs or whatever we call.
As you have said, there are so many sites that need good writers and the payment is also very prompt. If the intention of a blogger is money, then this way is sure to serve the purpose. If he wants his articles to be appreciated, then also this seems to be a good alternative. After all when writing for his own blogs, there is a need for promotion from his side to make his article noticeable.
    Good luck!
    Regards………..
