From Mr. Anonymous:

I’m not a religious person yet I respect all religions. I like the fact that it gives a purpose to a community to stick around.

At the same time, I don’t like them because a majority of them divide people based on their religion, color, ethnic, ity or any other reasons possible. I believe the real religion is this truth:

  • Every morning the sun will rise
  • Every night moon will shine.

This is a universal truth that doesn’t change for any religion, ethnicity, or any other reason.

You might be thinking why you should know this & how I know all this. It’s because, at one point in my life, I was struggling with living life. For a long, I felt like I’m caged & doing things just because somebody else wanted me to be. I’m not radical rather I’m the guy who

I’m not radical rather I’m the guy who sits on the first bench & scores the best grades in exams. I was doing good in my life after graduation & my business + money was growing. Even though I was at the stage where I had everything, I was not happy.

I realized that life is not all about working, making money & be a part of the race. This is where I get to know about Spirituality ( Something that  I always thought of unreal bullshit) & let me tell you the honest truth:

When I used to hear the word spirituality, I used to think: It was the person who left everyone & living a life of Sanyasi. I thought people who were spiritual, are the ones who has given up on this materialistic world.  (I was very wrong…)

When I was researching spirituality, I was shocked to know that most of the great leaders like Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam were spiritual. With my utmost fear & doubt, I started learning more about it & after knowing the reality of life; my life has changed completely. From an anxious, angry, self-centered guy; I become a person who emphasizes all the pain, learned to leave now & lost all my anxiety. It was a magical feeling, as I thought the anxiety & tension is part of my complete lifespan. I was wrong when I discovered the truth & realized we can shape our life in any way we want.

As a guest here at ShoutMeLoud, I will keep this part short as the truth of life is better experienced.

The end:

Mr. Anonymous (Until next time)

Books have always been influential in my life and that is the case with millions of people worldwide. While there are hundreds of amazing books written along the lines of Spiritual awakening, choosing a few among those is a daunting task.

There is a lot of knowledge out in the world and in this information age, we are more concerned with daily nuances than gaining actual knowledge. Even highly successful entrepreneurs like Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, and Bill Gates always make sure that they find the time to read daily.

While reading novels and scientific non-fiction books is a great way to build upon your knowledge, life is also about finding yourself.

This is where Spiritual awakening books come into play and help you find your purpose in life.

7 Top Spiritual Books for Soul Awakening

Now that you have decided to read some of the best spiritual awakening books, I will try to list out here some of the must-read books in the genre.

Below is the list of the 7 best books on enlightenment and spirituality.

1. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

The power of now

Eckhart Tolle is one of the most popular spiritual authors in the present day and his ‘The Power of Now” stands testimony to that. Living in the ‘Now’ takes a lot of practice and it is much easier to get anxious about the future or lamenting about the past.

People fail to realize that the actions we take now matter the most and not how analytical we get about our past or the future. If you are looking forward to a read which will allow you to inspect the meaning of living in the here and now, The Power of Now is an amazing read.

Eckhart Tolle talks a lot about the Chinese concept of mastering one’s Chi (ch’i) or ‘Energy flow’. The cycle of life and how enlightened relationships make a part of it are some of the few topics that are covered by Eckhart Tolle in this spiritual guide.

Read this book to help you master the art of shutting down noises in your head and focus better on the task at hand. Drifting into the unconscious being or what we call as procrastination is a serious threat to your present now and this makes it a must-read for anyone with this issue.

This book encompasses deep philosophies, all of which requires years of practice and not mere hours of reading.

2. The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer

Life’s beauty is in its imperfections rather than its perfections. We all have this image of our lives in our minds and the way it is supposed to unfold. As William Shakespeare would put it:

Following your passions relentlessly in life and then letting life choose the consequences for you is the main gist of this amazing book. To with the flow of life and to completely experience whatever life has to offer you has been brilliantly put in this book.

Once you are willing to let go of yourself, life becomes your friend, your teacher, your secret lover. When life’s way becomes your way, all the noise stops, and there is great peace.

― Mickey A. Singer

We often fail to realize that we do not possess complete control of our lives or situations around us. Fretting over these issues more only leads to discomfort and dissatisfaction in life.

Sometimes, life is all about surrendering yourself completely to whatever life has to give you. This has to go without saying that it matters that you put in your maximum efforts into the realization of your dreams.

3. Stillness Speaks by Eckhart Tolle

Stillness Speaks

Stillness and silence are the virtues that are often related to introverted-ness or shyness. People fail to realize that these very characteristics are the ones that have found out to be peculiar to the creative types.

People like Bill Gates, J. K. Rowling, Mahatma Gandhi and Albert Einstein are/were introverts themselves and it is their virtues of silence and stillness that helped them the most.

Although people assume that being at the forefront of everything is how you succeed, it is through the ability to put our thinking mind to the action that we succeed in our relationships and in life.

True intelligence operates silently. Stillness is where creativity and solutions to problems are found.

― Eckhart Tolle

The profounds of life and its happenings could only be understood through concentration and focus that is brought about by our ability to keep our mind still and embracing silence.

Meditation and the Art of focus concentrate primarily on stopping, reflecting and repeating. Soothing one’s ego is essential for letting go of negativity in oneself and mastering the art of silence and stillness would help it by leaps and bounds.

Another masterpiece by Eckhart Tolle, is one must-read book if you’re unable to stay focused and get drowned in the noise around you.

4. Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda

Autobiography-of-a-Yogi

Paramahansa Yogananda was one of the most inspirational spiritual people of recent times and his works have left a serious impact on the world. The Autobiography of a Yogi is a chronicle narration of the life of the man himself. His encounters with saints and sages, childhood experiences, and a search for an enlightened teacher encompasses this amazing book. This book tries to explore and explain the miracles of life and human existence.

Live quietly in the moment and see the beauty of all before you. The future will take care of itself.

― Paramahansa Yogananda

Being translated into over 20 languages, the Autobiography of a Yogi is one of the classic telltale spiritual stories of the modern-day. Drawing analogies with the Upanishads, modern Hindu literature, and Vedic interpretations of the Bible, this is one of the must-read books for invoking a spiritual awakening.

5. The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz

The Four Agreements

Humans are often limited by their own self-beliefs. The boundaries that we ourselves build are the walls that we are confined to. To experience life to its fullest, we must not allow these beliefs of ours to rob us of our joy and peace. Author Miguel Ruiz describes the four agreements to live your life by and banish the self-inflicted pain that we all live under.

The Four Agreements 1. Be impeccable with your word. 2. Don’t take anything personally. 3. Don’t make assumptions. 4. Always do your best.

6. Be Here Now by Ram Dass, Richard Alpert

Ram Dass - Be here now

This is one of my most favorite spiritual books of all time. As Ram Dass puts it, “Cosmic humor, especially about your own predicament, is an important part of your journey“. This is one of the best spiritual books with a sense of humor to its side. This book is more about a man’s transformation into the spiritual side of human nature by acceptance of the principles of Yoga.

Just because you are seeing divine light, experiencing waves of bliss, or conversing with Gods and Goddesses is no reason to not know your zip code.

― Ram Dass

This book has been credited with the root of spiritual inspiration for Steve Jobs and his close friend Daniel Kottke and his travels to India.

Along with The Autobiography of a Yogi, this book inspired Steve Jobs to travel India and seek his spiritual center. This book takes a completely non-traditional approach to spiritual writing, albeit an intentional one. This book has also been credited with the cause of many people taking up the study of psychology and religion a few decades earlier.

7. Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu

Tao Te Ching

This is one of the classic masterpieces on the subject matter of spiritual awakening. Again, one of my most favorite spiritual reads given the extent of subject matter put forth in this amazing book.

Written sometime around in the 6th Century B.C., Lao Tzu was an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer credited with the invention of religious Chinese philosophy of Taoism.

This book has been translated numerous time but the one for which the link has been provided captures most of the essence of this epic masterpiece.

A man with outward courage dares to die; a man with inner courage dares to live.”

― Lao Tzu

Describing the universe, the flow from being to non-being, mastering our inner yin and yang, and the philosophy of ‘action with inaction’ are some of the key concepts tackled throughout in this spectacular spiritual book.

Lao Tzu was one of the most-read poets in the world and many of his thoughts and philosophies are presented in the form of short poems throughout this book.

Tip:

When you are in the journey of Spirituality, you going to hear great stories & people finding the meaning of life. One thing which you should always know is; the world is inside you.

Here are a few more spirituality books that you should read once you have started understanding the basics:

  • Living with the Himalayan Masters (if you have read the “Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda,” this is a good sequel to it. Even though I would say not to believe anything which is said until you experience it, but it’s good to know the possibilities.)

So, as we come to the end of this list of the best books to read for spiritual awakening, which of these have you read? Did you feel any of your favorite spiritual books went unmentioned?

What is Spiritual Awakening and Why does it Matter?

There is a Japenese concept of a “Reason for being” called as ‘Ikigai‘. Finding one’s purpose in life and self-realization has been defined by Ikigai and has been accounted for bringing satisfaction and peace into people’s lives.

Spiritual awakening is not about your religion but is more about your self-being and the realization of what one dreams or hopes of. Ikigai is often related to as ‘bringing a reason to get up in the morning’.

Finding your true purpose of life and how to deal with life’s troublesome situations is what Spiritual awakening encompasses.

In a world that gets more and more materialistic, there is never an end to desires and often lands people in dissatisfaction. As Gautama Buddha would put it, “Attachment is the root of suffering“.

Getting too attached to the materialistic world has led people into disappointments and is something that one ought to be aware of. Realization of one’s expectations and capabilities is the inevitable and spiritual awakening is all about it. Self-awareness is an essential aspect of healthy and happy living.

One of the major sources of such deep knowledge on Spiritual Awakening is encompassed in literature, both of the ancient and contemporary times.
