Wordpress Dofollow plugin : Make your wordpress blog comments dofollow

by Harsh Agrawal on May 29, 2009

in Wordpress plugin

I have been talking about power of commenting a lot, You can read them on my previous posts :wordpress_logo

How commenting can help you get 1000+ feed subscriber in few days

List of wordpress blog using top commentator plugin

Commenting helps you to build linkback, traffic and show your online presence.   ( Do read : What is link Building and benefit of link building)

Though on BlogSpot it’s easy to make your comment form dofollow, but in wordpress all links in the comment form are nofollow. So any link which is placed on your blog comment form will not pass any link juice.

In case your blog is highly moderated and you don’t mind passing link juice to useful links, Dofollow wordpress plugin is very helpful to make your wordpress blog comment dofollow.

Use this plugin only when your blog posts are highly moderated and you don’t mind passing link juice to your reader and commentator links.

Download the plugin from author page

Hi,

I have had this plugin installed for sometime now and I love it.

It would be nice if there was a feature within WP that you could switch on/off DoFollow. Maybe even an option to set a total number of comments before link would be DoFollow. Something to that affect.

That’s a good idea George , though we can make our comment dofollow and for spam link we can manually add nofollow tag. Ahh.. that will be too much of work. I will rather Stick with commentluv plugin for Shoutmeloud commentators.

This will definitely increase the no. of comments, but at the same time if you are not careful the comment quality will also decrease. One of my friend had enabled do-follow, and a do-follow blog directory had included his blog. All of a sudden his blog was flooded with meaningless comments which are neither outright spam nor do they add value.

But this can also help you in gaining few loyal readers.
I am not willing to enable do-follow comments on my blog, but I do have comment luv installed and provide do-follow links to top commenters.

That’s very true this is the downside of making your comment form dofollow but if you have a blog which is highly moderated or comment are available only for registered user, you might love to pass on link juice to useful links.

So yours is a Do Follow buddy ? :D

No Pradeep mine is Nofollow but I do give some benefit to my commentator by using comment luv plugin which automatically pulls up latest blog post from commentator blog.
Along with it, I award top commentator by placing his advertisement on the sidebar for 15 days for free.

Although people might not be aware, but mine is a “do follow” and im using the plugin Lucia Linky Love. I agree about the spam situation that one can undergo as a result of this..

One advantage…In the LLL plugin, you have an option of “following back” only after a certain no. of comments are made by a person….

In this way i make sure not to follow back spam…and then again askimet is there to prevent it to a great extent

Cheers
Sandeep

Not really in favor of DoFollow. There must be various other ways to provide link juice to your readers. Infact sandeep has just pointed one out.. :)

I am also shifting to comment luv. Disqus has a white form which looks odd on my black site.. :D ..and I am too darn lazy to create a new style sheet and upload it. I like comment luv’s gray color. I hope I can edit its CSS through the admin panel itself.. Lets see. :)

There use to be a dofollow plugin that you can set individual comments to do/nofollow but the developer has stopped updating – http://www.gregboser.com/wp-content/files/wg-dofollow-2.5.zip

Can you update it for WP please?

Do follow plugins like comment luv, top commentator plugin are win win scenarios for the blogger and poster. I know there are drawbacks due to spam but hopefully the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Hi great post. Doesn’t google penalize a website for making its blog comments “do-follow” ? I use to dofollow but then google slapped me hard. I am still looking for answers about it. As you know google never replies.

jd and Harsh Agrawal mentioned the DoFollow, WebGuerrilla Version which is what I was using. I upgraded Wordpress and the option to dofollow a post is gone. I am sure it much be some compatibility with the new wordpress issue. If someone updates it that would be great.

I have installed the dofollow plugin on my site along with keyword luv and comment luv. They each have various benefits and there is always a risk of some spammy comments but they have increased the amount of positive comments I receive on a weekly basis.
Gotta LUV it.

I’ve installed the plugins on my site and I’m anxious to see what effect they have. I’m hoping that I won’t have to monitor it everyday.

There is now a “movement” (for want of a better word!) to remove the “no follow” tag from the comments to encourage others to leave comments on your blog. In wordpress, the “no follow” tag can be be turned off by the installation of a “no follow” plugin.

By advertising your blog as a “DO follow” blog, you are encouraging others to comment.
