Some time back I have written on limitations of free WordPress.com blog and started offering WordPress.com to self hosted WordPress migration service. Though one thing which we needed to do in order to make the migration SEO (301 perma-redirection) friendly is to add the domain name into WordPress.com blog and then change the DNS to point to other hosting. This always add a lots of work, as DNS for that domain can’t be changed from the WordPress dashboard.
Today WordPress enabled DNS editing feature in which users can change the DNS of custom domain directly from dashboard.
What does it mean for users :
Those who are using free WordPress blog with custom domain, they can extend their blog with other services like Google apps, sub domains and so on. This is a good start from WordPress to give more features to WordPress.com users .
Do let us know if you have a custom domain with WordPress.com blog ?

This is a very good move by the Wordpress team. DNS feature will benefit many bloggers for sure.
It will help them to extend their Interface to more areas like wiki, Google apps and so on.. Thanks for your input
Can you please give me other examples of how it is beneficial, apart from google apps? I see a lot of people not so clear about the implications of DNS editing.
Thanks!
Abhishek if you are using custom domain with your Wordpress.com account. For example shoutmeloud.com and wish to set up a wiki or sales site on some other hosts. Like wiki.shoutmeloud.com or store.shoutmeloud.com you can easily add DNS record to point to this sub domain on hosted somewhere else,
Hi-ya,
I have just added a couple of A records to my client’s wordpress blog DNS record. He paid the premium to hide ‘wordpress’ in his domain name. We are now moving his site away from Wordpress.com as he would like to use plugins and premium themes. Rather than change the nameservers, I decided to add a couple of A records to the DNS entry:
A
A www
The www. resolves correctly, but the continues to point to the wordpress.com site.
Any advice very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Vicky.
