    by Harsh Agrawal

We have told you about Latest WordPress update to WordPress 2.8.4 few days back and today I realize a little or lets say big problem with the latest version of wordpress.

WordPress 2.8* has widget drag and drop problem and it has been reported by many users in the support forum.

There are two problems which is faced by latest update of wordpress 2.8*

    • Widget Lost
    • Widget Drag and drop not working

I faced the widget drag and drop problem and because of that I can remove the widgets from the sidebar but can’t add any. Thanks to WordPress support forum and I got the solution to this problem.

WordPress Widgets has accessibility mode which can be enable by clicking at top, Screen option under Appearance> Widgets and   activate the Widget accessibility mode. Here are screenshots which will guide you through this problem.

You can select the sidebar on which you want this widget to appear. Though this is simple work around for wordpress widget problem.

I’m expecting another update from wordpress which should resolve this issue.

The same problem I already faced while enabling footer widget.
I think WordPress developers are too lazy to check all the functionality proper.

Atul Wordpress will never do it and this problem could be because of theme also. Though I’m uncertain about the root cause of the problem. So can’t really blame wordpress for it.

I had a problem with the widgets last night when I was trying to drag and drop and you eventually had to do it from your side. I thought it was my connection, but after reading this, I think it was not on my side.

For some reason it feels like Wordpress have plenty more bugs now since they started to release updates more frequently. With the old 2.7 there were almost never any bugs.

Claudia you should try changing your browser and see if it works for you or not . Let me know else I will try to find some alternative solution.

I too cannot get my Screen Options menu to open up and display the dropdown, thus I can’t change the settings necessary to put my widgets back in the sidebar. Does anyone have any advice as to how maybe I could manually hardcode a plugin (specifically Sub-pages widget v1.1) or modify the db to change the Screen Option setting from there?

Hi people I’m not sure if I discovered the problem but worked with me.
Al those WP update problems happened only when i use Firefox. When i tried use Internet Explorer it worked properly. Now i’m using firefox plugin to appear as ie. It’s working normally. The sad thing is to know that there is an incompability with firefox. Maybe it’s on purpose. Microsoft sucks (LOL).

Claudia it happens some time. Most of the time Wordpress dashboard problem is fixed by either deleting your cookies, and cache or by changing your browser. :)

I’m using WP 2.9.1 and Still the Widgets are not working… It doesn’t word in accessibility mode either.

Have cleared cache, changed browser. I am using the default theme and no plugins either active or installed.

There’s deffiantely a problem with WordPress that must go back years…

Any idea what I could be missing?

There must be some bug with your wordpress core file in this case. You can try reinstalling Wordpress , though take a complete backup before that..

    I found the solution!

I’m new to IIS7 and have been using IIS6 on Windows 2003 for the past 5 years. It turns out that I read some very bad advice from some websites, they resommended that to speed things up I use the .php extension in the Output Cache.

As soon as I deleted that entry and refreshed the page it all started working perfectly!

Awesome! I’ve been wrecking my brain for half an hour trying to figure out what was wrong. Removing plugins, changing themes, etc., and all I had to do was go into Screen Options, haha.

Thanks for the info! I’ll be sure to keep it somewhere I won’t lost it – for when it happens again.
