Twitter updated @replies usage, Users considering it as #Twitterfail

Today Twitter announced a small twitter setting update, which is actually not as small as it sounds like.

Twitter_Fail

Earlier users can see any ongoing chat @replies by users, even if he is not following both the twitter users. We had three option to select between under notice settings of twitter:

All @replies, @replies to the people I’m following and No @replies. Though the new update is something which snatches away the power to control their Twitter @ replies.

According to Download Squad

new default for every user is that @replies that are both to and from someone you follow will be visible, but other @’s won’t

According to official Twitter blog update

receiving one-sided fragments via replies sent to folks you don’t follow in your timeline is undesirable. Today’s update removes this undesirable and confusing option.

The interesting part is people are still unsure what Twitter meant by the update. Either closing @replies for non following users or you can’t see the conversation going on between two person who are not in your following list.

According to Read Write web

The new policy isn’t something you have to opt-in to. It’s not something you can opt-out of. It’s true for people who use 3rd party Twitter clients to read their Tweets. It’s more fundamentally closed than Facebook is; on that site I may not be able to view the profiles of strangers talking to my friends, but I can see that the conversations are happening and I can read the comments. This new Twitter policy breaks one of the fundamental rules of social activity streams: that I can discover new people by seeing who is conversing with the people I already know.

What’s your opinion about the new update?

I hope the same Harshad. Lets hope this all will come out as a great stunt like facebook in which they got lots of exposure after changing their rules and later on they reverted back everything to normal.
