Twitter Diwali Gift : Tweet From Your Airtel Mobile via SMS

Twitter the biggest micro-blogging platform is giving Diwali gift to Indian Twitter user by collaborating with India biggest telecom giant Airtel.   In this collaboration Indian twitter users can directly tweet from their mobile using SMS.

Though receiving SMS will be free but sending SMS will be chargeable according to Airtel regular charge.

In an official announcement twitter co-founder Biz stone announced

There are over one billion people with internet access on the planet but there are more than four billion people with mobile phones and Twitter can work on all of them because even the the simplest of these devices feature SMS

To initiate this service, Indian Airtel mobile users need to send a text to 53000 with START

Looking at official announcement, we can also predict more Indian telecom giant, may have collaboration in the near future.

What do you think about Tweeting from mobile using SMS? When we have much better lower cost option by Tweeting using GPRS or 3G ?

If I have to tweet from mobile I use GPRS, beacuse my GPRS is free.
and I think those who have not GPRS enabled handsets they may tweet from SMS if they really want to wish from twitter.

Yes Avi, this service is useful for people who don’t have GPRS enabled mobile.

Hi Harsh,
This is really the best and appreciated step taken by Twitter.So why not we Indian celebrate the Diwali by sending the wishes to our Twitter friends through Airtel.

Surender I agree but the sad part is In India all the mobile operator have increased the SMS rate for 2 days, So I will still prefer the web interface for two days to send tweets and wishes.
