What is LinkedIn?

Over 50 million professionals use LinkedIn to stay in touch with past and present colleagues and classmates. They use it not just for their professional identity but also to stay in touch with the folks in the industry. Moreover, you have people who share your goals and ideals just a search away.

The addition of Twitter sync further enhanced the professional conversation process. “Twitter is not only a massively open platform, but also it’s a place where there’s a tremendous amount of professional information already being shared, and we wanted to be sure that was coming to our LinkedIn user base,” said Allen Blue, LinkedIn’s co-founder and vice president of product strategy.

How does Twitter help?

Now every time you change your status message you don’t have to do it twice for your LinkedIn friends and the Twitter followers. Post it once in either place and purpose solved. Here’s how:

While on LinkedIn

Before you post a network update just check the small Twitter checkbox under the Network Updates box and click on Share. Choose your twitter account and if you would want to display Twitter on your LinkedIn profile. And you’re done.

While on Twitter

It’s again as easy a process. During your setup you choose if you want all your tweets to be synced or just the ones with the hash-tags (Just add #li or #in to tweets you want to send to LinkedIn.

On a concluding note, I would say that one very clear outcome of this move will be an increased reach for both the networks – LinkedIn and Twitter. Also, it will translate to a reach much deeper into the professional world. Business ideas could not propagate any faster.

Do let us know how you liked this new feather added to LinkedIn’s cap? And if it did any good for your professional identity?

I heard about this the other day, but I have yet to set mine up. I can understand the partnership and I think it will benefit many users of both apps. Nice to see Twitter partnering with other companies.

It seems Twitter is an essential service now that all websites must include in order to attract and keep users :) I believe in this race, Twitter is the winner, not Facebook because Twitter is so small, easy to include and so flexible while Facebook is large and complicating.
