in social bookmarking

Social Bookmarking is one of the better ways to bring in traffic almost instantly to your blog. But its not easy to survive using bookmarking sites, unless you really have some cool articles in your bag. Before I tell you anything else, I should tell you this: Social bookmarking is not the only way to build up traffic, there are many more ways too however, this is the only best way to get instant traffic. There are very few top social bookmarking sites I would consider for getting good traffic to my blog, on the other hand I would recommend you to use very few of them say 1 or 2 at maximum to make most use of them.

My First preference would be for www.digg.com , which has huge number of inbound links, good page rank (8) and Alexa rank (156) rank. You can expect huge number of visitors from this site if you have a real good article. Digg effect can boost your blog within a day. If you are not familiar with Digg, do refer Digg: the beginners guide.

Secondly I would like to draw you attention towards www.reddit.com, which has very good monthly visitors right after digg. This site has PR 8 and Alexa rank 664. One thing good about Reddit is, it’s highly moderated so chances of gaming reddit is very less.

www.stumbleupon.com would be my third choice, with very close monthly visitors to reddit. It has PR8 and Alexa rank 418.   Articles with lots of images, funny images are the best for Stumble upon. Most of funny images and video blogs run on the mercy of stumble upon.

www.technorati.com is my final pick of the day. This is the last Social Bookmarking Site I would consider in terms of traffic. The site has good number of monthly visitors compared to rest of the social bookmarking sites that are not mentioned here. Technorati has very good page rank (9) with Alexa rank (676).

As I already told you earlier, I would recommend you to use only 1 or 2 Social Bookmarking Sites that are mentioned about to make most use of them.

Do let us know which social bookmarking websites you prefer the most and why?

totally agree with you. as you mentioned SB sites are not the only way to get traffic but they are best to get instant traffic and digg, reddit and SU are best among all of them. Few months ago i wrote an article with a case study about these 3 SB sites… for me Reddit and SU are the best.

Well, My all time favourite social bookmarking site is reddit!
it gives hell lot of traffic! most of the visitors are from united states! and in my experience, reddit generally gives good traffic at weekends! i dont know what is the logic behind it..

Digg.com is interesting, but in my opinion reddit is better than digg,

Homepage Ranking:
its very hard to take page positions in digg..
it is easy in reddit to get ranked in homepage,

Template:
also full marks to reddit’s light weight template!
reddit is totally ad free( ads appear very occasionally)..
and ads doesnt disturb the content! where in digg, the ads are over-stuffed..

Comments:
reddit’s way of commenting rocks!
at a single click the whole list of comments can be viewed at a time, no matter how many thousand comments are there!
where as in digg
u need to click “see more” to view more comments!
which is not that easy friendly when you compare to reddit…

in my opine, Full Marks to reddit!

and i hate, delicious!
till now i have not got even a single visit from it! however, i use delicious for browser Bookmark backup!

I agree with chetan. From reddit you get quality visitors and not an Internet mob. The discussions on reddit is educative, while digg’s comments are just stupid one liners.

SU has always given me very good traffic… depending upon the quality of the post…. inspite I hardly log in to SU.

I never understood Digg , I mean it really requires a large no. of trusted active friends … hard for busy ppl.

Thanks for telling about Reddit …. didn’t know it gives such good results …will try.. Any reddit tips ??

One thing very important about Reddit is it’s highly moderated.. So when You submit anything on reddit, Make sure you submit it in the right category.

My favorite is stumbleupon because I get quick traffic and the visitors often stay on average 11 – 21 minutes. I know most people can’t seem to do this but its going great for my blog.

I haven’t tried reddit so far, lemme do that. As far as Digg is concerned it’s pretty good. It generates the second highest traffic to my site..
