Pop-Under Advertising: Good, Bad or Ugly

Many advertising companies offers Pop-Under advertisements and somehow revenue generation from Pop-under advertising is more than text link ads, contextual ads. Reason being, it loads every time with page load (depending on the settings) and if any one have a busy (high traffic) website, he can make more money out of it.

Now coming to the reality and the quality of Pop-under advertising, they yields good result and revenue stream is stronger but from a readers perspective they are very annoying.  Imagine another tab opens up when you reload Shoutmeloud, how annoying that will be.

Below is a video from Google webmaster team where one reader asked “What will be the effect of using Pop-under advertisements from search engine ranking point of view”.

This question is answered by Matt Cutts (Google engineer) and he clearly said from a search engine perspective Pop-under ads does not make any difference.

Watch this official video from Google webmaster team:

Though like I mentioned above, Pop-under advertisements are annoying and is very annoying for readers. So if you are using Pop-under advertisements on your blog, you should better stop doing it, or else run a poll and ask your readers reactions for the same.

Do let us know your views about Pop-Under advertisements? Do you use such adverts on your blog or you hate it?

Hi, i use popunder on my gossip website. I found it very remunerative respect to adsense, for example. I started using it 3 months ago. I agree that a popunder is very annoying (but you can simply use something like adblock for firefox) but sometimes is the only way to make money. For example adsense pay very poor for gossip and people who read gossip are not interested in clicking your ads so you need something else to pay your hosting, domain (yes, you won’t be rich) etc…

Tinh thanks for backing up my opinion. Even I don’t like Pop-under ads and more annoying is Email sign up form which appears on website in same fashion.

Loveish no doubt .. Pop-up ads make more money reason being they are very prominent. But if you have a high traffic blog and you can monetize other ways like adsense, CPM ads, I believe you can switch to it.. :)

Well not everybody hates it. It’s one of the main ways adult sites make money.

Anyways I had covered this topic a day back on my blog. Interesting topic this is.

Adult site and other niche sites are different.. We don’t even discus adult site here are SML because that’s not the best way to make money via blogging..Or even if it is, it’s illegal and many countries law doesn’t allow adult site hosting…
And I agree with Mad Geek..Pop up advertising is something I hate a lot because it’s really annoying.

Running an adult site is NOT illegal in the majority of countries, only countries with dictatorial or highly religious regimes that like to control their populations.

Adult blogging is also very profitable. There are thousands of adult affiliates making full-time incomes from their adult sites, whether they are producing content themselves and operating as membership sites, or affiliates with blogs to promote those sites.

You clearly don’t understand the business, so please do not make unfounded assumptions about what is “illegal” or what is or isn’t profitable.
