Most tech enthusiasts, like me, who are subscribed to more than fifty feeds from various blogs and journals. In fact, it saves a lot of time to go through feeds than visit the real website. We all know how efficient feeds are. Today, I’ll discuss NetNewsWire – a feed reader for the MAC OS. Not only is this my favorite, I cannot imagine managing my RSS other wise.

NetNewsWire
This easy to use RSS and Atom Reader is free for Mac users. In fact this lightweight software has even received an Eddy award. All you got to do is set it as your default RSS reader and next time when you click on the RSS icon in your browser NNW (NetNewsWire) takes care of the rest.

As you notice in the screenshot, you have a list of feeds in the left column and its corresponding list of articles. There is an easy viewing pane too. In case the user wants access to the full article he has the choice of viewing it inside this software’s own browser or the default browser, say Firefox.

Catching up with the latest news could not be any simpler. Subscribe to your favorite news sources and at the click of a single refresh button you have access to the latest happenings. Afraid of losing the older feeds that you overlooked earlier? Well, NNW has a solution for that as well. You can set it to automatically archive the feeds at regular intervals and save it on your hard drive for future reference. To add cherry on the cake, it integrates with all your other apps. iTunes, Growl, Twitterific… the list goes on.

Overall, I love this software for its simplicity. An elegant interface, all the necessary features and yet so simple to use. Even a novice can figure his way out of this. Talking of the other interesting features of this software, you can not only set the interval at which the feeds are updated but also create a Smart List. Mac users will know, as they are familiar with Smart Folders. Basically, what is does is that, based on pre defined criteria by the user, it creates a list of articles. For example of the various tech blogs you are subscribed too you may want to sort out all the articles pertaining to the iPhone.

The best part comes in here. Using your Newsgator account you can keep your RSS Feeds in sync across all the platforms you would use. Be it your iPhone or Blackberry while traveling, or the Windows PC at office.

Personally I would recommend this software to all of you readers. It not only makes the task of staying up to date easier but saves us a lot of time too. I can skim through a way larger number of articles now in the same time and with lesser efforts than before.
