In the official press released Microsoft announced

Microsoft Corp. today unveiled Bing, a new Decision Engine and consumer brand, providing customers with a first step in moving beyond search to help make faster, more informed decisions. Bing is specifically designed to build on the benefits of today’s search engines but begins to move beyond this experience with a new approach to user experience and intuitive tools to help customers make better decisions, focusing initially on four key vertical areas: making a purchase decision, planning a trip, researching a health condition or finding a local business. The result of this new approach is an important beginning for a new and more powerful kind of search service, which Microsoft is calling a Decision Engine, designed to empower people to gain insight and knowledge from the Web, moving more quickly to important decisions.

The new service, located at http://www.Bing.com, will begin to roll out over the coming days and will be fully deployed worldwide on Wednesday, June 3.

According to Microsoft senior vice president Mehdi, the new search engine from Microsoft will be targeting more on task completion rather then showing the result from everywhere.

Bing is integrated with web, Image, travel, Shopping, Video and Map search engine.

Though the competition is going to be tough for Microsoft new search engine, when most of the market is acquired by Google search engine and Yahoo search engine. Though Microsoft is putting a lots of funds for the advertising of Bing and we can expect a new Search engine in making.

Veera the thing is Bing is coming up with a different concept, all we have to see is , if a normal Internet user is going to type Google or Bing for search.
Wish luck to Microsoft for their Giant search engine product.

@Nihar Very nice question, Google becomes giant and it seems no one could come near it in a competition but when we talk about real search then definitely Twitter is the king, there are also some very good search engine available on the web like ask.com and aol.com but they lack such an awareness in India. Also Google has superb algorithm and some definite search principle which categories it into different category like Google is the only search engine which understand nofollow attribute while Yahoo and Ask does not. There are also some unique search engine you should check
1) http://www.viewzi.com
2)www.searchme.com
3)www.rollyo.com

Thanks for the input Himanshu.
Meanwhile are your sure , yahoo and ask doesn’t give any value to nofollow link attribute?
Because in that case we will be seeing only paid links at the top of these search engine.

Hey Harsh, i really apologize for my mistake , actually few days ago i read an article on a web about robots.txt , by mistaken i give a wrong info, there is nothing like nofolow link, it was actually “robots.txt”. Every search engine has its own robots.txt support. Please read an article http://searchengineland.com/yahoo-google-microsoft-clarify-robotstxt-support-14125 . And really sorry for giving wrong info on your blog.

Lots of fund? Yeah a very hefty amount of money..upto $100 million, compared to $25 million spent by Google last year. Money can’t buy you success, though..! Not in the search engine market at least.

Bing does stand out with few feature- Glossy interface, combined use of images, maps and videos and a preview on each search result. MS has definitely made marked improvement with Bing.

Lests hope people will Bing some more and Google a little less.. :p

P.S: I have written some articles covering Bing in last one week. Do check them out. :)

Zubin
Even I’m expecting to see something new from bing. The amount they are spending on adverts and branding , I hope we will see a new search engine with some great feature here.

We never know what’s coming in the big package of Bing where Microsoft is spending 100 million $ just for the advertisement.
I’m hoping to see something exciting from Microsoft this time.

I tried Bing and so far I love its mouse over preview of the search results so I can choose not to waste my time clicking on it if the link is not something i was really looking for. I just don’t like its name. I believe Microsoft could have given it a better name if they were thinking what the guys at http://Find.com, Ask.com, Answers.com, etc were thinking. Don’t you think it’s kinda silly name for a search engine?
