winrar 400 400 150x150I don’t know how many of you will find this post useful but long time back I had problem finding it out so I feel this might be useful to many of you.

How often we have seen movies on Rapidshare which are generally split into 100 MB sizes. and it’s better to download movies or any large files if it is split into files of small size.

How do we split files using winrar? Follow this steps and you can easily split your large files into small files which will be much easier for you to share over internet. In this case I have taken an Image file with 4 MB size and I have split it into small files of 1 MB. First of all select file you want to split and right click on it and select archive.

rar1 300x225

At the left bottom you will see an option of split to volume, do notice size we specify there will be in bytes. In this case I’m splitting it into 1 Mb each i.e 1024000 bytes.

rar2 300x225 so in that ” Split to volume box“, I will write 1024000 and then click on Ok. That’s it now you will have file which is split into 1 MB each.

You can change the split size according to the original size of the file. You can read more such tips and tricks here .

I can still remember those days of floppy disks, when we were suppose to split files in those small parts. But yes, who needs to upload files on rapidshare or other platforms of restricted limit, they really need winrar or other splitter or joiner to do these things now a days. Nice info buddy.

Thanks for your comment Sanjeev. Thats very true we might feel that we don’t need such splitter, but that’s not true.. Still there are very limited no. of website who allow upload of single file with huge size. For them this will be a life saver.

i would like to add that its a good idea to add sfx archive to first part so that while unzipping at a remote location say if ur sending files 2 a friend all u need to do is run an exe file. simple as that. i do that when sending large files to mom.
