Months back I have written a post on Why Blogspot blogger should have a custom domain. There are many benefits of using custom domain starting from branding and later on SEO.
SEO in the sense, when you will migrate to self hosted wordpress blog later , Google will automatically redirect your link juice to your domain. So if you still use a .blogspot domain for your blog I highly recommend getting a custom domain for your blog.

Getting a domain name is always depend on the User choice. Though I personally recommend namecheap as I mentioned above. They provide free who.is guard

Nice video, the great advantage of haing your custom Domain is that you can move your blog to be hosted wherever you want and keep your page rank because your links will still remain the same.

Nice video, but it shows how to set up the custom domain, if you purchase a domain name from them, what if you already have a domain name and your blog is independently hosted via FTP using blogger and you want to move it to custom domain setting. Is it advisable or independently hosted blog on blogger platform is better.

Even if you have independently bought domain name, you can easily add it to your blogspot address, but you need to make changes in your Name server and point it to blogspot.
Totally right! Having your own domain name gives your much more freedom to advertise without the possibility of having your blog deleted.
