How to Display Latest Google plus Updates on WordPress/Blogger Blogs

IN Uncategorized

Just as Google is obsessed with page speed, I’m kinda of obsessed with Google+. In this article, I would like to share two simple methods to display your latest updates from Google+ on your blog – be it WordPress or BlogSpot. I usually post articles aimed at blogs run on blogspot, but the case in this article is little different. I’ve the codes for WordPress users as well. So, without wasting time, let’s get started with the tutorial below.

I’ll start off with the widget for WordPress Users. Before we begin, I suggest you to get your Google+ ID from your profile URL. To do so, just visit the following link – Harsh Profile. Look out for the numbers at the end. Just note them down on a piece of paper. Take a look at the following picture to better understand about the same.

Just paste the following script anywhere on your theme.

	$googleplus = fetch_feed(" ID"); // Replace GOOGLE+ ID with your own ID
	echo '<a href="';
	echo $googleplus->items[0]['link']; echo '">';
	echo $googleplus->items[0]['summary'];
	echo '';

That’s it! Replace GOOGLE+ ID (found in the third line) with your Google+ ID and your done! Thanks to Valentin Brandt for the above script.

Coming to the users on blogger/blogspot. You can either create an RSS feed for your Google+ post updates and use the same on FeedBurner to get the updates running as a headline on your sidebar (or) simply follow the steps below to achieve a better widget as shown in the screen shot below.

1. Navigate to the following link – My Profile. Get the ID of your Google+ profile. You may refer to the previous screen shot for reference.

2. Go to the following link – Google+ Widget. Hit the button “Get Widget”. Just paste your ID in the box next to the column that says  ‘Google+ ID’. You may customize the widget to your choice. It’s pretty self-explanatory. Once you make the customizations, hit the “Get Code” button on top.

3. Now, login to your blogger dashboard and navigate to “Design >> Page Elements” page and choose ‘Add A Gadget >> HTML/JavaScript” and add the code which you generated in step 2. That’s it! Save the changes.

The above widget is applicable for WP users as well. If you find any other way of displaying the latest updates from Google+ on a blog , then share them via comments!
