How to Configure WordPress Portfolio Plugin: Wp-Portfolio

If you have noticed ShoutMeLoud client Portfolio you will realize I have listed lots of WordPress blogs I have created and client websites which I have worked for. I have done all this work under Various WordPress services. To showcase my portfolio I’m using a very useful WordPress plugin name Wp-portfolio. Wp-portfolio is one of the best free Plugin which you can use in your blog to showcase your work. I won’t say it’s best Plugin out there but when it comes to free WordPress plugin, it’s one of the best.

WordPress Portfolio plugin

In this tutorial I will be helping you setting up this Portfolio WordPress plugin. Plugin installation is very easy like any normal WordPress plugin, so download and install this plugin. (How to Install WordPress plugin).

Once you have installed and activated the plugin, you will see options on the bottom left hand side under Section name Wp-portfolio.

portfolio-settings Click on Portfolio Settings and that will be the first screen you need to configure. For images you have two options:

  1. Manual Images using Thumbnail Link
  2. Using Free Web service Shrink the Web

Depending on the situation, you can always use any of these two, but I suggest configure Shrink the web settings in your Portfolio plugin as it will save your lots of time later on.

Wp-Portfolio setting page:

To configure this plugin We need to get Access key ID and Secret Key from Shrink the web. To start with you need to register for a free account at Shrink the Web Website.

How to Get Shrink The Web Secret and Access Key?

Register and login to your STW account. Once you are logged into your STW account, on the left hand side you can see your STW access and Secret key. Copy key from STW to Wp-portfolio Setting page (Shown above).
Change the thumbnail Settings and number of days to Cache Thumbnail. I prefer to keep the default settings. Once done click on Save settings.

Add Groups and Websites:

This plugin give you an option to sort everything based on Groups. For Example you run different set of services, you can create a group for every service and add Website under that group.

So start with add a group by selecting Add new group under Wp-portfolio Settings:

portfolio-group Once you have done adding all the group, you can add Websites under the groups you created by clicking on Add new Website under Portfolio settings:

add-website By clicking on Show Advanced settings you can configure many other settings like Custom Thumbnail and Website ordering.  Once done click on Add Website details.

Once done you can show your portfolio on any Webpage by using this short code:

[wp-portfo lio]

Portfolio Preview:

Final-portfolio You can also play with the plugin CSS template to change the layout of your portfolio page.

If you run a Web –based service or into Freelancing, having your online portfolio will help you to Boost your business.
