Facebook is one of the best social media tool for Bloggers and Webmasters and it helps you in brand awareness and drive traffic to your blog/service.
I created a Facebook fan page for my service which is still in alpha stage and while creating it, I did everything right apart from misspelled my brand name.
While setting up this Facebook fan page, instead of typing WpfreeSetup I typed WpFreeetup (Missing S) . I know it’s epic fail. Before I realize I have set up wrong name for my Facebook fan page, I already set up personalized URL for my Facebook page.
I looked into Facebook help and other resources online but seems like despite of giving lots of features, Facebook missed giving an option to page admin to fix the misspelled usernames.
You can see this Misspelled Facebook Fan page here. Though the URL has been fixed but the name is showing WpFreeetup with a missing “S”. I can’t even create a new page as I will not be able to get Facebook.com/wpfreesetup name again. What a tragedy for my new service branding.
Update:
I have created a new Facebook Fan page
http://www.facebook.com/pages/WpFreeSetup/140489449331004
while setting up custom name, I will append it with .com and this will be a little trick. Not the best solution, but still only possible solution.
Meanwhile I will be looking for a solution to fix this misspelled Facebook name issue and if I will find something, I will update you. If you have any useful input to share which can fix this issue, do let us know via comments.
I am also stuck with same problem. I change name of website, with 1000+ likes. I am not allowed to change the name of the page. As result i have now opened new page with new name . I used suffix com after the name
Harsh, it appears that you’ve now rectified this issue. Can you please explain how? I’ve just made a similar error in changing my Page name – I misspelled the word Photographer, locking in Photograher instead. I can see no way to correct it since I have over 200 likes and already had a name change submitted and approved.
Yeah, I’ve done this before and check my selection like 3 times before I submit because I don’t want it to happen again! Just recently realized how easy it is to change a twitter username though.
Although I have this very same problem, I’m glad Facebook don’t allow the page name to be changed. Can you imagine the pages you’d unkowningly ‘like’ if the administrator could change the name every time someone offered them $50 to change their page name to some dodgy online drug store…
lol..i thought i have found the way to fix mispelled FB fan page.
The official word from Facebook is that not only is correction not allowed – but that we can expect to never see it allowed. Were it to be added, pages could be “farmed” under some comic name, for massive follower counts and then sold to a business that could then name swap to their business name. Facebook is perhaps being overlzealous in preventing this but its the method behind the madness. The only solution is creating a new page and… if the username is involved, deletion of the old page (and waits of sometimes up to two weeks before that username returns to the “pool” of available usernames). Sorry I don’t have better news.
Kimberly
i also have same problem but there is no solution..
I also searched a lot on the same, but couldnt find any solution… Facebook doesnt allow changing the name of a Page unlike Orkut which does allow…
But in your case, I think there is an option… In case you delete your misspelt page, your custom username would now get available and then you can choose that as the username of the new page…
i’m not sure but i think this should work as it does work on twitter…
I guess they will not allow you to use “.com” as suffix. I had tried it once. You can delete your old page so your ID will be free and then you can reuse it. this is the best of my knowledge.
You can try is slug as well “WpfreeSetupFans”
i’m not sure whether “.com” suffix is allowed or not but “.org” suffix is allowed and i’ve seen pages with “.org” suffix
I ended up with WordPressFreesetup now
http://www.facebook.com/WordPressFreeSetup
Hope this doesn’t count as WordPress domain policy. I believe it should not as it’s not a TLD!
While searching on Google I came across a solution. You can report your Facebook page bugs at this link – http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=pages_bug along with the screenshots of the isuue.
Thanks Simran for the link. Lets see if it works out..!!
Let me know if it works. I’ll write a blog post about it 😀
Just liked your pages. So bad for a brand new service! 🙁
It is 😐
And thanks for liking the page 🙂
very sad, i was suffered like you, after all now changed my username because it was newly created page.
Lucky you but for me it’s sad..As already 100+ people got connected to that page!!
Harsh, even I have made this mistake a long time ago, but till not able to rectify it 🙁
Sad to hear that.. Lets hope we have a solution soon…
Meanwhile what did you do after that?
Created a new page by deleting the old one or used the old one?
I was shocked to see this post, as I though you have found out some trick to change the Facebook Page Name. 🙂 I too have searched a lot on this but couldn’t find anything yet. Looking forward to get some solution for this…
Do let us know if you manage to find some working solution…
Harsh, its sad to hear that you have encountered this kinda problem. I Hope you will find a solution for this very soon.
Seriously it’s an Epic fail from my end and from Facebook too, as they don’t allow to fix misspelled names! 😐
You can see here
http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=904#!/help/?faq=15196
“Facebook Pages › Facebook Pages: Creating, administering and editing your Page.
How do I change my Page name?

It’s not currently possible to edit the name of a Page. If you would like to change your Page name, you will need to delete your Page and recreate it. The Facebook team isn’t able to change Page names for you.”
Thanks for input Pulkit.!
AFAIK, only by contacting FB admins, you can do that.
Facebook Administrators cannot do that. Unless of course you know you mark better than I know Steve 🙂
Ha ha Nice one Pulkit..Facebook should work closely with their user..They have been adding many useful features but again their response time for user query is getting poor..!!
