How to Auto-Publish a Blog Post to a Google Plus Page

Google Plus is one of the most important social networks for any Internet site. With the Google Search Plus Your World feature, whenever you share content on your Google Plus profile or Google Plus page, you will be able to increase the visibility of your article to your Google Plus followers.

Until now, there was no way to auto-publish a blog to a Google Plus page automatically, and that was a limitation. With Google Plus buttons you can share content to your Google Plus profile, but for pages you had to do everything manually. Manually sharing content is always a good idea, as you can add your personal comments thus creating more engagement to whatever you share socially, but with the increasing number of social networking sites, automation is our best friend.

If you have not created your Google Plus presence, I recommend that you follow the steps in the article noted below, and create a Google Plus page for your website or blog.

Once you have created a page, follow the tutorial below to auto-publish your blog feed to Google plus pages.

We will be using a social media tool called Hootsuite, which is a complete social media management tool. You can read more about it in my previously published article on the Hootsuite social media tool.

How to auto-post to a Google Plus page

Hootsuite offers free and pro accounts, and this new Google Plus auto posting feature is available on free accounts as well. If you have not yet created a Hootsuite account, go ahead and sign up for a free account. Once you have signed up, the next step is to start adding your social network accounts for auto-posting. You can add many other accounts like Facebook pages, Twitter, LinkedIn, WordPress, Foursquare and many others.  Click on your avatar on the top left, and browse to the bottom to add a new social network. Select the option which says “Connect with Google plus“.

Connect Google plus to Hootsuite

Once you click on connect, a pop-up will appear, and you will need to allow Hootsuite access to your Google Plus page. Once you have granted the Hootsuite access, it will show all of your Google+ pages, and you can add them one by one to your Hootsuite dashboard.

Free accounts have limitations of the number of social networks you can connect to, and if you wish to use multiple pages and feeds, I recommend that you grab the Hootsuite Pro account, which is reasonably priced.

Add Google plus pages
Once you have added the page, go to Settings > RSS feed, and add a new feed. Here we need to add a few details, most importantly your RSS feed and the social network sites on which you wish to share.

Since we are configuring auto-post to a Google Plus page, simply add your blog feed’s URL, and in the social network dropdown, select the Google Plus page. You can also set the frequency of publishing, and how many items you want to share at one time.

Auto post to Google plus page

Click on “save feed”, and you are done. Now Hootsuite will automatically check your blog feed for updates, and as soon as you upload a new post, it will automatically be posted on a Google Plus page. You can join ShoutMeLoud’s Google Plus page to connect with us on Google Plus.

Here is a video guide to setting up a Google Plus RSS feed by auto publishing:

Google Plus auto-posting is one of those features which I have missed for a long time. The free Hootsuite account is limited to only 2 rss feeds, so I recommend that you grab a $9.95/month Pro account and increase your social networking and RSS item limits, as this ability is worth the price you will be paying.

Create a Free Hootsuite Account

Let me know if you have any questions about setting up auto- publishing to a Google Plus page via Hootsuite, and I will respond to your questions as soon as possible.

If you are looking to auto-post on Facebook pages, Hootsuite is a great choice, or you can use the free RSS Graffiti to do so as well.

If you find the information in this post useful, please share it with your friends and colleagues on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.

Hi here,Thanks for this post. The question I would like to ask you is “How to make a perfect RSS for Google auto publication with Hootsuite”.Hootsuite by defualt publishes “Title description permakink” of a submitted rss, right ?Is there any solution to post only “Meta description permalink” ? for example.Thank you

I tried Hootsuite but encounter a problem: Everytime I update a post on my blog (for new info or news to a topic) Hootsuite shares this post to g+ though it was already shared in the past. It happened that it shared it 3 times in a row because there were so many updates to make due to changes of the product I was talking about. The only way to stop this is to deactivate the RSS Publisher and reactivate it after a couple of hours. I tried some services and have not encountered any problem with the RSS feed on IFTTT (tried with twitter) nor with zapier (used with Facebook). The only reason I stay with Hootsuite is the g+ support but I consider deleting the account and post by hand because this problem is really annoying…
Does anyone else has this problem?

Tried Hootsuite, Buffer, IFTTT, and a few others. If you want a FREE solution, use a wordpress blog. Install Jetpack. Don’t use all their features because it really SLOWS down your website. Just use the SHARING feature. That feature has an AUTOPOST TO GOOGLE+ function. Connect your Google+ and enable the autopost. Every time you post something on wordpress, it autoposts to Google+ even with a PICTURE (the first picture featured on your blog post — limited only to one picture per post). When a user clicks on that picture, it links back to your WordPress post. This free solution took me DAYS to figure out. Most stuff offer a free trial, but this is just a free solution and I noticed a lot of people don’t seem to use it. I hope it helps.

Good article. We all need time-savers for sharing content across social media these day, and this is a neat solution to sharing from a WordPress blog. Thanks.

    Hi here,
    Thanks for this post.

The question I would like to ask you is “How to make a perfect RSS for Google+ auto publication with Hootsuite”.
Hootsuite by defualt publishes “Title + description + permakink” of a submitted rss, right ?

Is there any solution to post only “Meta description + permalink” ? for example.

Just to follow up, it posted but it took a WAY long time. Hopefully it maybe because my account is new. Let’s hope so. Thanks for the set-up instructions/

I haven’t had much success with autoposting and now I have a crazy combination of using twitter feed for twitter and Rss Grafitti for facebook. I manually post to Google + and with a number of blogs, it’s time consuming. I signed up for a free Hootsuite account, set it up properly and all I added to my profile is 2 Google + accounts. I then created 2 posts on each blog that fed to my RSS feed aboiout 4 hours and nothing has shown up. Thank God I did not go with a pro plan or set up all of my accounts because I would have been royally pissed.

The integration does not seem to work with Google+. Let me know if you know of any quality reliable solutions for posting to Google + free or paid.

Previously I used Blogspot but from 1st January I switched to WordPress and in blogspot there was an inbuilt option to publish a blog post on the Google Plus page. But as I am now WordPress this guide for me is really awesome. Thanks!

I just thought that Google+ was only in the premium of Hootsuite. Never knew it was for the free account as well as RSS feeds. Great post and thanks for this valuable information!

I have the same question as Susan –
I am not able to schedule/post photos with accompanying text to my g+ business page.
I get this message when I click “Attach image or file”:
“Please select an Owly profile before uploading”

Do you know if this sort of function/scheduling to a g+ page simply not available?

  13. ty_buchanan says

Hootsuite will only publish to your Google+ business page not to your personal Google+ page. When you have a business G+ page it takes priority.

Thank you for this. We’d been using Hootsuite for posting to twitter but hadn’t realised we could use it to automatically post to Google+

Auto publishing feature is good time saver and improve blogger productivity however on the flip side it pays to be aware of the shortcoming, the so called dark side of social media automation updates. Do check my post in regards to privacy concerns. Particularly at times, people do not realize that authorizing other sites to have access to your blog feed or status updates on other social media platform post some risks.

I am hoping you can shed some light on my issue. I’ve have my posts going to G+ thru Hootsuite but none of the images from my posts are showing in G+. Have you a clue why?
