GoogleSeoAlgorithmchanges Google Search Against Low Quality Website & Content Farms

Google has made some major changes in algorithm in past 2-3 months. On January 26th Google went live with new algo to lower down ranking of content scrapper site and now Google has implemented new algorithm on 24th February 2011 which will affect those website who are  creating content farms with mass number of useless posts and less original content.

This is a major change and many websites have been impacted and affected with new algo change.  Google has confirmed that this new algorithm change will be affecting 12% of total search result which is a huge change.

Personally I have seen major traffic change on many of my websites after 24th February when this new algorithm went live.

According to official announcement from Google:

Many of the changes we make are so subtle that very few people notice them. But in the last day or so we launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to our ranking—a change that noticeably impacts 11.8% of our queries—and we wanted to let people know what’s going on. This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.

Personally I don’t like this new algorithm change as I can still see many content scrapping website ranking well in search engine. According to Webmaster world forum, this new algorithm is not perfect and needed to be refine more. More over 12% change all of a sudden has brought down a great traffic dip for many websites.

Google team also confirmed that they are not directly using Personal blocklist chrome extension to make any direct alter in algo but they are comparing the result from their algo and user action to block any sites.

I believe Google will update it’s algorithm soon or make this new algorithm better to make sure no content scrapper and low quality sites will rank higher in SERP’s. Though expecting it to be 100% accurate is a myth and may not be achieved.

Do let us know if you have noticed any change in your search engine position after 24th February 2011 algo change? Did you notice less number of auto-blogs in Google search recently?

Sad to know one of India’s biggest blog is affected with new algo. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I too got shocked as Digital Inspiration is always considered as an ideal blog by the bloggers, and I personally like the way he writes the posts, his quality of content and feel that there is some mistake in the new signals added by Google in the algo. Hopefully Google should correct it, because it is not acceptable that good sites should suffer with the actual content farms.

Well i was analyzing, many websites and forums. In which many websites lost sudden traffic from Google.com for only one day. Now things are back to little normal. But the point is Who gained if websites like ehow, hubpages, sqidoo, xomba, articles directory lost many positions. Also, none of my articles lost its ranking. If these big sites will lose tons of positions than we have big chance to rank our sites to these places.

my god, I saw labnol.org traffic. It is like they got deindexed for many terms. If amit jo was getting 1lakh visitor per day. Now he is getting 5k visitors per day. Also, in some reports says Google just implemented this algorithm in Google.com. What if they are going to implement in 40-50 google country specific urls?
Also, after this updates all massive content sites will adhere much more strict content guidelines.
If you analysis properly, Big sites like hubpages etc have good content. But still google wants to keep searchers happy, this will make adwords user more happy.

    Hi Harsh,
Yes, heard the news and very upset to the real affect in labnol.org blog.
I’m sure Google will come up with some correction. There will be so many blogs effected like this.
Anyhow, my tech blog is not affected by this, hope Google is recognizing my content as unique and genuine :)

If you share what one blogger should do if this change affects his/her blog, that will be great.
    Good luck

I see a decrease in my Organic Traffic. Before 24th it used to be around 70-80% of the entire traffic. But now it’s only 50-55%. So I’m trying out some other methods like Social Media promotions, Blog Commenting, etc. to try and compensate for that loss. It’s really annoying for a blogger when your blog deserves to be ranked higher but still it’s not.

I dont think so it wud matter much to the farms as they always find way to bypass the filters.
