Few days back we talked about adsense Interest based advertising , Soon adsense is planning to implement category based advertisement targeting. From the official adsense blog :
Category filtering will give publishers the ability to block ads that fall into specific categories such as dating, religion, and politics. Regardless of how ads are targeted, they’ll be filtered if they’re within one of the selected categories
Seems like adsense is giving power to their publisher for the kind of advertisement they want to show on their blog.
We already have adsense section targeting method, to show the related contextual adsense advertisements.
For now Category Filtering option is rolled out for few adsense publisher for beta testing, and final version will be out after the feedback from these beta test participants.
Though looking at the screenshot and defined categories, I expect a wide range of categories from Adsense team.
