How about accessing your Gmail inbox right from your desktop? Official gmail Blog has announced the release of official Gmail gadget for Google desktop.
The only requirement for this will be Google desktop software installed on your system.
The Gmail gadget is almost similar to the web interface of Gmail, it has the same keyboard shortcuts , you can access more then one email id at a time , but the only difference will be it can’t play sound when new E-mail arrives, but i don’t think this will matter much to us as there are lots of other alternative which can notify you once a new email reaches to your inbox.
Do you know you can add twitter gadget on your Gmail account.

I’m using my gmail for all my social networks account, but sad to say I seldom log-on to check my inbox. If gmail will be added as one of the gadgets for Google Desktop, it might help me to check it regularly. I’m missing all the invites and messages because of this.

if you use Google desktop then this gadget will be very handy.
Else I have configured my Outlook to fetch my Gmail account Emails.
That give me more freedom.
