Gmail Enhanced security with Default HTTPS

in Gmail

Security is major concern when we are on internet. Apart from Fake page (phishing) method other widely used hacking method is sniffing. In which any sniffer software like “Cain and Abel” sniff the data sent over network and using a decoder hacker capture the password and other sensitive information’s. One easy way to get over such issue is using HTTPS over HTTP.

Earlier HTTPS used to be an optional option in Gtalk , which you can enable or disable from settings. Usually a normal user will never notice this setting. Today Gmail team released an update in which they are keeping HTTPS on by default. This default HTTPS settings will be very useful for non-tech users.

According to official update :

We are currently rolling out default https for everyone. If you’ve previously set your own https preference from Gmail Settings, nothing will change for your account. If you trust the security of your network and don’t want default https turned on for performance reasons, you can turn it off at any time by choosing “Don’t always use https” from the Settings menu.

Nice and timely info for me. Though my problem is a different one.
For last 15-20 days, Every alternate day, I am receiving email from Google at my secondary email account (other then G mail) specifying a link for password recovery. I am also getting SMS with Password recovery code.
Now till date, I never tried to reset my password and with every single effort I successfully login to to my G mail/Google account.
It looks like that somebody is continuously trying to access my Google Account!
Is there any way, to find out it or any solutions ?
I raised this issue in Google forum but no response till date!
best regards

That was a really good tip on keeping g-mail secure.. I have been using g-mail for long time and i feel its more secure then any other free e-mail service provider. Most of the users becomes victim of Phishing attack and its not at all related to G-mail security flaw. I am using Google mail application for my own 2 domains and for 20 of my clients and its working fine for me.

G-mail is more secure as if a hacker wants to hack any g-mail or any Google account they have to go through 4 Security layers which i have mentioned below.
1. Security-SSL or 128 bit secured connection
2. Google account checks for cookie in the sytem of user.
3. Google provides a redirection to the entered User information.
4. Google doesn’t use conventional aspx/php/asp coding. So it is impossible to hack Google Accounts using input validation attack!

I would suggest everyone to try G-mail if you havent and make sure to enable Secure browsing as mentioned by HARSH AGRAWAL

Thanks
