Almost all of us have watched and appreciated 720p HD videos on YouTube, and we thought it couldn’t get better. Well, here’s some good news. YouTube just announced support for 1080p Full HD videos. More details after the break.
Starting next week, YouTube will feature an added 1080p viewing mode for videos uploaded in the said resolution. Moreover, if you have previously uploaded 1080p videos YouTube will save you the trouble by automatically re-encoding those videos to its best quality.
We have all seen how popular HD cameras have got nowadays. In fact HD shooting is one of the default features for most camcorders in the market now. Same goes for those tiny point and shoot cameras. Full HD or 1080p, as it is otherwise known, represents a resolution of 1920×1080. Last year, YouTube had introduced 720p and the quest for an even better visual experience is still on. However, right now the maximum size of your video will be limited to ten minutes. Don’t worry guys, we’ll find that getting an upgrade too, in the near future.
Well, that said, viewers will not only need monitors supporting higher resolutions but also greater bandwidth on their internet connections. HTPC(home theater PC) users are going to greatly appreciate this.
ISP’s please take note – user demands are increasing and we need cheaper access to the internet. Here, in India internet is still quite expensive for us to enjoy internet streaming at its best. That was for the viewer’s side of the picture.
Talking of YouTube, no doubt that bringing in this feature will add a feather in its cap. Nevertheless this translates to added trouble for the servers. I’m sure those guys are well prepared with faster servers this time. How well, that we shall get to see once its live. Back in January, while I had a 16Mbps connection, I remember a lag while YouTube buffered my videos.
I’m sure this move will further strengthen YouTube’s position as the online home for audio-visual content. We shall also review other full HD providers in the market and how they fare against YouTube soon, so keep subscribed to us.
I would want to know from our readers, what’s your take on HD streaming and more importantly what keeps you from it? Is it hardware configuration, or storage issues, or lack of proper internet bandwidth?

I really like HD video’s, but my only concern is the bandwidth that is used to view the video. It eats a lot and now it will eat even more as the size and quality will be much better.
true. hd turns out to be an expensive hobby for sure. internet usage apart even if you look at the price of hd content vs. sd content ders quite a difference. but this scenario is sure 2 get better next year.
thats great..
