Facebook, the fastest growing social network could now be even called the fastest growing website. Since it’s launch in February 2004, the website has only seen growth and is still only seeing growth, although the rate of growth has decreased. We all know the ‘Facebook story’, it has inspired, angered, awed and exploited many geeks and normal men alike and it continues to do so every single day. According to sources, 1 of every 12 person on this planet has a Facebook account. The number of members are well above the 500 million mark and gets about 648 million unique visitors every month.
About 18 months ago, Facebooks traffic figures made it the 4th largest website on the internet, and now it has moved up a step. Yahoo search engine, which was on the third spot had to give way to Facebook to take it’s place. Facebook has indeed taken over Yahoo and has climbed to the third spot, making itself even bigger and stronger. If one looks at the trafiic figures and graphs at TechCrunch, it would leave the person in shock. Yahoo CEO doesn’t see Google as her biggest competitor, but Facebook, and now that Facebook has taken over Yahoo’s spot they’re going to be even more cautious and will try to get back on top. The difference between Yahoo and Facebook’s traffic isn’t much. Yahoo still gets about 633 million unique visitors and is still No.1 in the U.S. Next in line would be Microsoft and then Google. There is about a 300 million difference in the traffic stats of Facebook and Google, and it does look like Facebook could take over Google in a few years. Although both Google and Facebook are completely two different things, I say this on the grounds of visitors and revenue.

Facebook never pass Google.I guess that!
Same opinion here ….
Facebook might score on revenue generation grounds, but yeah i doubt it’ll ever take on Google.

Meanwhile Merry Christmas and happy New Year
Yeah nothing is new about this, but Facebook has finally overtaken Yahoo..officially.. so that is new.
And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
I don’t see facebook overtaking Google in coming 2-3 years and it will be interesting to see where will be facebook after three years, can it maintain its traffic or it will loose it to some other website offering better social networking? Nice fight going on.
it’s no wonder facebook comes on 2nd position and give a competition to google to get the 1st postion..
Facebook is the best
True.. but Facebook addiction is not the best.
Who know what happens after 2/3 years….Facebook may eventually cross Google’s spot ….
In coming years it will be interesting to watch how Google will react if Facebook got number 1 spot.
Yeah im addicted to facebook too
It has grown very rapidly…
