Back in March we talked about TwitterFox for Firefox. We’ve come a long way since. While twitter has gained immense popularity since then, the very means and ways of accessing it has got easier and seamless. TwitterFox is now known as Echofon. While most of you are already familiar with this incredibly useful tool, I’ll introduce it to the others and also talk about its many a useful features.

A Firefox extension. to put it simply, Echofon sits as a tiny icon in the bottom right corner of your browser and notifies you in the form of a small text alert.

Discussing its many remarkable features. Firstly, it shows you the latest tweets coming in from your friends. Now sharing a link is no more tedious. All you need to do is click the link button in the bottom right corner of your screen. So you keep browsing and won’t have to go elsewhere from your very own browser.

The interface is minimal and very easy to use. New tweets are easy to find as they are on the top and have a blue background. A mouse over on them reveals the reply button. With the arrival of Echofon you put an end to manually checking twitter. You can set a predefined interval at which Echofon keeps checking for new tweets coming in.

Moreover, you also have access to your direct messages box. If you do not wish to make a public tweet you could just send a direct message to your friend.

The said software is also supposed to have the ability to sync with the iPhone version of the client. I haven’t yet tried that so cannot comment about that but we’ll cover that soon too.

So those of you who haven’t tried this yet, shoot to this page now echofon.com/twitter/firefox/ and get your browser the latest version of Echofon.

Very nice. The problem is I have so many add-ons for Firefox already. It soooo slow compared to Chrome. Now I use Firefox for my blog activities and other browsers for actual browsing.

Glad I found this post — I completely overlooked the new blue circle icon on my FF status bar — the older version popped up on its own or when I hovered the mouse. No wonder I was going directly to Twitter so much (LOL). The “mentions” tab is very helpful, avoids searches. And tweets from same friend are listed together. Easy to see whose been spamming or sending tweets you could care less about…

I currently use Seesmic, but I may have to give this a try I wouldn’t mind not having to jump between windows to Tweet.

Recently I stick on Seesmic web which offer all features a tweep need such as RT, Twitter list, DM, reply, groups… but Echofon is something new I should give it a shot. As a habit, I always try, experience new apps to know which is the best that meet my need.
