Create Audio Messages from Song Clippings

in Interesting link

Here’s a very interesting link that I came across while surfing yesterday. This site can convert any text you write into an audio message by clipping various song samples. This service called “Let them sing it for you”, has existed for years now. It was created in 2003 by Eric Bunger. It’s a simple app yet a lot of fun.

Using popular song snippets it will translate your text into audio. If the app doesn’t recognize a word it tries to stitch it together using a phonetic approximation from multiple songs.

Let them sing

The software uses a vast database of pop lyrics and uses it to identify your words. And you could also suggest a missing word and suggest a source. Once you are done, you could email your audio message to your friends.

This elusive piece of software has so far had over four million individual users all over the world. It has also been reported to have received ‘The Content Fusion Award’ at Europrix Top Talent Award 2004 in Vienna and ‘A Special Commendation’ at Prix Europa 2004 in Berlin.

As Eric suggests, “Let them sing it for you also constitutes an alternative to the way you can get computers to sing or read a written text. Even this function is automated, but with a much richer and more unpredictable result. Send your friend a love declaration, Christmas wish or poem sung by Judy Garland, Lou Reed and Christina Aguilera”

I don’t wish to ruin the surprise element by talking more so go try it out for yourself at www.sr.se/sing

Tell us how you like it. Let the famous voices express your thoughts.
