If you are a blogger then you might be curious to know about top blogs of the blogosphere. There are different ranking system on the internet that ranks the site according to authority, traffic, online reputation and the community behind the blogs. Technorati, Alexa, Compete, Quantcast are some well known blog ranking system,
TIME, well known for magazine and top lists it prepares every year, picked some top blogs of the world and made a nice list. You should check it out. The list is categorized into three parts: best blogs, essential blogs and overrated blogs.
Zenhabits, which is a blog about productivity is awarded as the number one blog this year followed by PostSecret and Climate Progress.
Techcrunch, Gawker and BoingBoing are filed under essential blogs and Fail Blog, Mashable, Daily Kos and Perez Hilton comes under overrated blogs.
It’s good to see that TIME gave ranking to those blogs which really contribute a lot to the blogosphere. I was not surprised to see Oatmeal in the list because the team of this blog works really hard and contributes the best (example).
I also miss some favorites name such as Lifehacker, Problogger.net and few more blogs. I don’t know the procedure of ranking but I must say the list they made is pretty nice and includes mostly those blogs which love to distribute the knowledge and have a great community.

Comparing to Best Blogs 2009, I see some blogs from previous year kept their presence in the current list also and some like official google blog failed to do so. Does TIME arrange any voting to prepare the list?

These blogs would no doubt be famous and popular in general, but surprisingly I’ve only heard of the first two and The Oatmeal!

TechCrunch came under ‘overrated’ blogs last year, but this year they came under essential blogs. I regularly visit TechCrunch, but these lists may add some new blogs to my own list.
