According to Wiki Article :

Backlinks (or back-links [UK]) are incoming links to a website or web page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (though other measures, such as PageRank, are likely to be more important). Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page.

I try to build quality back links each and every day. Like you said commenting on forums and blogs is the way to go. It is interesting that you mention that the do follow designation might not be that important anymore. That is good because I comment on blogs I like to read, whenther or not they are do follow or not.

It depends..If you have done everything right..within a month or two google will recognize the 301 perma redirection.. Make sure you check every individual post permalink and that should match your blogspot permalink for every individual post. Because when you import your blog to wordpress, your individual permalink will be borken…

All sites would love backlinks and try to increase it everyday. I do my best to increase mine and look at all backlinks before approving them to ensure that they are top quality.

The DoFollow and Nofollow does not matter anymore according to what I have read.

Thanks for sharing this info :)

yes i too personally think nofollow links are also useful but it depends on why u r commenting on blogs. Commenting for serp & backlinks OR for popularity & traffic. Commenting on nofollow wont help in getting backlinks in Google but make u beneficial in gaining traffic which is the main aim of a webmaster.
i try to comment on every blog i find interesting no matter if its dofollow or nofollow. Most bloggers comment as to build up a group or say get into community and get into limelight in every bloggers eyes. it makes a relationship.
And offcourse Content is the King as to get real popularity and fare results on your blog. Useful content gets ur blog reader turn to a subscriber or daily visitor of ur blog.

Very true ,if you spend time on other’s blog and leave a genuine comment people will defintely get back to you and then it depends all on your content to make the first time visitor as regular one as Neko said.

And just like that? I have found it incredibly difficult to get quality backlinks. I have submitted to many directories, but they often don’t pan out. Anyone have any suggestions for directory lists?

Reply

18 Neko Auto July 31, 2009 at 10:02

You can find directories list sorted in a free, paid and niche categories at directorycritic.com and yea submitting to directories wont help in getting much quality backlinks as most of those dirs are spammy with lots of links in lots of categories. Try submitting only to quality dirs which can help ur site and not hurt the rankings

I think if the content you offered is important or interested enough, people will be willing to spend time on the surveys that they have to answer ahead.
For example, if you are offering online video clips people are keen to watch online or download, it will make better motivation.
Then, you should be able to get a lot of backlinks from blogs whose owner like your websites.
