If you have been following ShoutMeLoud for a while, you have probably seen a lot of familiar faces in the comments section. These are regular SML fans that love contributing to the discussion.
One of the best things about ShoutMeLoud is: We get a lot of genuine comments on all of our posts.
Because I take care of my comments section.
When I started SML back in 2008, I started with the aim of making it an engaging blog, and expected to get lots of genuine comments.
So I started building traffic and growing SML. But eventually, I learned that just because there is lots of traffic, that doesn’t mean there will also be lots of comments.
You need to turn one-time readers into regular readers.
Now, how do I make a one-time reader a regular reader on my blog?
The best way is by writing great content.
Now here’s a secret to getting new commenters:
First, check out this post: How commenting can help you get 1000+ feed subscribers in a few days.
I work on this all the time. But there is a catch…
Suppose I’m writing a technology post, and my front page is full of posts related to technology, but I’m commenting on a “make money online” blog. This blogger might not be willing to accept my comment because my front page is loaded with posts in a different niche.
So here’s my strategy: When I write posts related to blogging, I add comments on blogging blogs (Problogger or Copyblogger or some other blog-niche blog). My aim is to get as many readers as possible from the blogging niche to check out my blog at that moment.
Then if I write a post about SEO, I’ll comment on an SEO blog. Same with technology. Same with any niche.
This technique will lower down bounce rates and get readers excited about finding a new source of information.
Update: Now in 2017, I mostly focus on blogging and online marketing, so I usually comment on blogs related to SMM, SEO, blogging, and online marketing.
Remember that interlinking of blog posts is very, very helpful for lowering bounce rates. Also, roundups are great for retaining readers. Throw in a few internal links and these new readers will want to stick around and engage with your content.
Additionally, you can add a related post widget and link within the widget.
By following this technique, you will surely attract a lot of highly targeted visitors and new commentators to your blog.
Try out this method and let me know how it works for you. Share your experiences in the comments!
