An unexpected move is taken by US marines by blocking popular social networking websites like Twitter, facebook and Myspace.

Few days back we announced the Ban of Twitter and Flickr like site in China and how to unblock blocked websites in China.

The news come as a surprise   when US Marines Announced the Ban of Such social networking websites for one year.

THESE INTERNET SITES IN GENERAL ARE A PROVEN HAVEN FOR MALICIOUS ACTORS AND CONTENT AND ARE PARTICULARLY HIGH RISK DUE TO INFORMATION EXPOSURE, USER GENERATED CONTENT AND TARGETING BY ADVERSARIES. THE VERY NATURE OF SNS CREATES A LARGER ATTACK AND EXPLOITATION WINDOW, EXPOSES UNNECESSARY INFORMATION TO ADVERSARIES AND PROVIDES AN EASY CONDUIT FOR INFORMATION LEAKAGE THAT PUTS OPSEC, COMSEC, PERSONNEL AND THE MCEN AT AN ELEVATED RISK OF COMPROMISE. EXAMPLES OF INTERNET SNS SITES INCLUDE FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, AND TWITTER.

Though the ban was unexpected and seems like ads and spam on such social networking sites are becoming an issue.

I think this is kind of stupid for the US governement to be doing if they are in common areas like where the military has a internet cafe like system for the servicement and women to check what is going on back home. If they are in areas where they need to be working then that is OK. Greg Ellison

This is just another way for the U.S. Government to shut up and shut down any actual or potential criticism, of and by marines, and doing it supposedly in their name, and in the name of “protecting” the U.S. Citizens and the U.S. Marines from various truths some would rather keep hidden. The entire political system in these United States has become compartmentalized, corporatized, and marginalized. We used to have a dynamic Country, with many active centers of power and authority. Now, even Fathers are forbidden to rule over their own Families, local school boards are told what to do by the Feds, and our Military has been “privatized” or “professionalized” into complete silence. In other words, no criticism of the “Big Boys” and their profligate and deliberate screw-ups allowed. All in the name of “Safety First.” Hey, wasn’t that the justification given for the Patriot Act, which takes away our Citizen Rights as well as our U. S. Constitution supposed “God Given Rights”? Who do those foolish Pentagon Folk think they are fooling? Only themselves, only themselves….
