5 Benefits Of Working From Home

What would you prefer: Working from home or going to an office?

Working from home is not a new trend anymore. There are different pros and cons of working from home. In this article, I will share some of the major benefits of working from home.

Do remember working from home these days doesn’t mean you are on your own. Many progressive companies now let their employees work from home, or they prefer hiring people (Freelancers, digital nomad, and others) who don’t need office and love working from home.

One major advantage of working from home is you will save time on commuting from home to office. In major cities, this is a real time burner. For example, I’m from New Delhi, and here people spend more than 2 hours every day traveling from home to office and vice versa. Since I work from home, I end up saving 48 hours every month on commuting. Not to mention that I also save the hassle of getting stuck in traffic.

Another set of people working from home are bloggers, freelancers, entrepreneurs who are their boss and many of them are usually in a dilemma to be working from home or renting out an office space. The reason they want an office space is that they feel it offers better productivity and discipline.

Well, this differs from person to person. For example, From last nine years, I mostly work from home and often when I get burned out or feel that working from home is not giving me productivity, I usually go to coworking spaces such as Instaoffice, WeWorkMyHQ, 91Springboard & other cafes in my city.

Why should you do this?

Well, here are 5 reasons I can think of…

5 Benefits Of Working From Home

1. You can start and end whenever you want.

  • Save

Depending on the kind of work you do, you are not bound by the 9-6 life. You can choose to work whenever you want.

This way, you will get to spend more time with family and friends doing the activities that matter most to you.

And if you want to work from 10-6, that’s totally your choice!

Again, depending on the job, you will have complete freedom to work the way you want to.

If you want to take a break right now, you can. If you think now is a good time to go to the supermarket, you can do that, too.

However you feel comfortable working, that’s how you can work.

2. There are no office politics.

There is no office in the world where “office politics” do not exist. Rivalry always happens between co-workers, and if the politics of the office get involved, this becomes a toxic environment.

However, when you are working from home, there is only one person with whom you have to compete on a daily basis; there are no annoying co-workers around. There is no mental pressure, and you can work as freely and as creatively as you like.  Instead of fighting to get the best cubicle in the office, your whole office is already the best.

3. More time with family

  • Save

I know a friend who lives in regret. Her mom was sick for months and since her job was the office job, she couldn’t spend much time with her mom before she passes away. This is just one scenario but there are many other situations when you definitely need to be home with your loved once. Or, better if there is no reason and you are a family person who loves spending time with their wife/husband/children/parents or any other. This is the perk of working from home.

However, you need to ensure that you don’t take this advantage lately and miss out on your given tasks. Some of the companies don’t mind the number of hours you are working as long as you are getting things done. On the other hand, few companies prefer at least 7-8 hours of work entry /day. My suggestion for you is, even if you switch from an office job to work from home, you should be honest about how much work and effort you are putting into your new job.

4. It’s cheaper.

When you work from home, there are no travel expenses, no expensive company meals, and no expensive formal clothes for the office. If you want, you can work in your pajamas.

Moreover, setting up an office at home does not cost much. You can grab any room in your house and turn it into an office.

Also, if you are founder of your company it means a less headache for you. You can take advantage of tools that help remote team to manage your team effectively from home. This actually saves a lot of money in the initial full year and later if you feel you still need an office, you can anytime get one. Here are few tools that you can use to work along with your remote team:

5. There’s a lot less stress at home.

  • Save

Although work pressure exists in any kind of work (including home-based work), it’s always less substantial than working in an office.

You don’t need to rush out of your house in the morning to get to the office on time.

You don’t have to face your annoying co-workers every day.

Your stress levels will automatically reduce, and you can give 100% to your work.

5 Reasons To Work From Home

Working from home looks easy and promising, but it requires a lot of hard work.

You need to be disciplined, productive, and efficient in whatever it is that you do.

If you feel like working from home is a good way to slack off, you will not be successful. Only those that work hard and work smart will be able to have a profitable career.

That said if you can maintain your focus, working from home could be the best decision you’ve ever made.

As a mom of three work at home is good for me.

  2. Ahmer Faraz

    Thanks Himanshu.

A very good post. It’s really very attractive and mouth watering idea to work from home because of the benefits you presented.

I already have started to think about it:) as I have recently started my blog.

  3. varun

Thanks for the post. Yeah totally agree with your points covered. It also given an opportunity to freely think about innovative things at home. No time boundation at all.

Some like the concept of working from home and some don’t. Others don’t like the idea of relying on an online career as main source of income. True enough, building a career online may really take time (and lots of patience) before it can exceed (or at least equal) the amount of income you’re getting at a regular/traditional work.

working from home is a passion. But in India, work from home is not yet started by many people. I think people don’t have certain awareness about this work

But what if your blog takes 1 or 2 years to make some decent money. you can’t predict how much time your blog will take to become super blog. you should’nt leave your job until your blog gets 1000s of visitors/day

      @Himanshu
A better approach is, once you start earning enough recurring monthly income, that’s the time one should leave their job for blogging.

  7. Rachana Rathore

You are right Himanshu, no other day job can match working from home. The kind of freedom you get by earning money right from your bedroom is one the best feeling in the world.

  8. Shiv

Good Post Himanshu. But I am not with you at “No Stress” thingy. Copy Cats, Page Ranks, Competitors… these things are making me more stressed now a days. But what made me to choose this career is Independence and I am the BOSS concept. Anyways, thanks for making me feel proud friend 🙂

  9. sudha

Some good points, but you need to know that some times it can be stressful if you need money coming in and it isn’t.

Some people think that working from home means adjusting with the quality of work and they try to give more time to there work. But, the real thing is they don’t need to do that. Working from home means that they are free of any hassles and they just need to concentrate on there work properly a time being no need to give extra time to work.

Remember that time is money: the only way to make the income you want is set an hourly rate youâ„¢re happy with, and then work out pricing as your rate plus expenses. If you donâ„¢t have enough time to do the work, then increase the rate or hire someone who does. Itâ„¢s simple supply and demand

  13. Swashata

Hey its nice actually 🙂 But personally I feel like having a job rather than being a full time blogger! Blogging and web designing is my hobby and by good luck to have Comp Sc. and Engg as my career 🙂

  14. Tech-Freak Stuff

As far as I have noticed, one you feel the fire under your Ass, you yourself start serious Blogging for making money! And once you start getting serious about the fact, that this is way you have to earn money all your life, then you are on the right path!!

  15. DDlinks

great post ,but do you know make money opportunities other than blogging (either create or write for others) .
what about data typing job (filing forums ) ? do you know good companies to work for.

  16. Rahul

I like work from home thing. This can change fortune. If you make 1000$ – 5000$ every single month. then only quit job.

  17. George Serradinho

Some good points, but you need to know that some times it can be stressful if you need money coming in and it isn’t.

I liked the picture by ‘Enormous opportunities’, made me laugh a bit. It could be about opportunities and also that he got a huge shock and probably more things. It depends on how you look at it.

A bad thing about being your own boss, is that you can’t just leave when things need to get done. I know people that check their clocks and leave when it’s time no matter what is happening. The boss always stays behind until the job is finished.

  18. Himanshu

I am not suggesting anyone to quit his hob for blogging as the condition of job is very critical in the whole World due to recession, if anyone get laid off due to recession or haven’t gt joining by the top IT firms then they don’t need to lose hope, they can find equal opportunity by working from home. Thanks for your comment Sajitha.

  19. Sajitha

Working from home is a cozy concept. But don’t quit your day Job today to Start something new. Do a part-time job at home and then make sure you can live on it before quitting your day job.

  20. S.K SHARMA

yes Himanshu you are right. There is no fear to snatch the Job in recession period.
Even “I am my own BOSS” saying can implemented.
