Digg rolled out Digg V4 and the way it is rolled out, I will call it pre mature baby, since we can still see lots of errors and bugs while digging and submitting posts. I have been using New Digg since it was not launched for public and here are few things which I might like to change as a user.
Before I will suggest changes, my word of disclaimer: This changes are my personal opinion and more over after using Digg for over 2 and half year, I feel Digg not only revamped the system but also changed the complete model of Digg. Probably that’s one of the biggest reason Digg users are annoyed.

Remove Auto Submission:
Auto Submission are good for publishers. This is same feature like Auto Tweeting and Auto publishing on Facebook, but again this Auto Submission on Digg, doesn’t allow any kind of Filter and you end up submitting each and every post which is published on your blog. Personally I feel this feature is not good for two obvious reason:
- Major Publishers will get instant promotion:
Popular sites like Gizmodo, Mashable, Engadget who have tons of followers will get clear advantage and their stories will hit Digg FP more than any other. What happened to user contributed content??
2. No filtering:
Major sites like mashable come with thank you sponsor posts. Don’t you feel that Digg is promoting some advertisements for free? Digg should allow a filtering or stop word which a publisher can control.
From Power Digger to Power publisher
We have talked a lot about Power digger and most of Digger knows that many Diggers take money to make a story on homepage but is it true for everyone? If yes, Digg won’t be such a beautiful community. Power digger make homepage because they submit stories which are interesting and useful. Seems like in new Digg V4, power of Digg transferred to profile with more followers. Good or bad?
Bury or Report! What do you want?
This is a feature which I agree till an extent provided if New Digg community take the reports very seriously. Earlier digg used to have Bury button which let you bury any story which you think is not appropriate, misleading or spam. But this also created a problem of Bury brigade where a group of people started burying story to promote other stories. In Digg V4 they changed the Bury button to report but it’s still unclear if n no. of users report the story, will it be automatically gone or any Digg moderator will manually review it and remove it.
Missing Upcoming Stories:
In old Digg, they were having a section called upcoming stories and we can see which stories are rising and many stories from upcoming section convert into FrontPage. Though this is from where bury brigade come into action. They see any story making Front page, they bury it and let them die. Since Digg removed the bury button, there is no need to remove the upcoming stories section. This is something I will love to see back on my Digg page.
The changes made in Digg V4 are something which is a step taken by Kevin and Digg team to fight the issue which they faced in Digg V3. Though the launch of Digg V4 was too early and this was done before user can adopt the new system. I would love to see some of the features coming back to New digg.
Update: Kevin Rose Updated a list of changes they will be doing in coming days.
I will love to know your reaction about New digg. What all changes would you suggest to make New Digg much better?

Great feedback on the new Digg. It’s been taking some getting used to. I agree with your suggestions as they make sense to me. Yes, I don’t like the idea of followers affecting your influence in Digg. It really should be about the stories you submit. It will be interesting to see how open Digg is to feedback and if any adjustments will be made to this new version.
Also some friends of mine are having trouble accessing their accounts. I hope this is just a temporary bug.
Digg were really sick of all the Pligg sites around, so I guess that’s the reason of the whole change
Can’t really comment on that… Digg change is a thoughtful insight from Digg creator and I respect their decision. Specially the way Digg Bury group and other group came in picture in recent time.. This change is going to be good for everyone..
I seriously hate the new digg for it’s idiotic features which has totally changed how Digg was. From a power user to now with more priority being given to users having higher followers. From a layman view it would be another twitter. Also, pradeep (from HBB) had reported about the Digg cart similar to the Twitter whale. Since yesterday even m unable to submit my posts to digg
I love it for it’s redesign. Thats probably the only thing I like about the new Digg.
There new design needs lots of improvement and also many bug fixes. I think they did hurry in launching the new design and haven’t tested the bugs on it.
Design is good but as stated by Mani Viswanathan, i think it will be quite difficult for beginners to drive traffic to their blogs.
